Fiction Book for August 10: The Mitochondrial Curiosities of Marcels 1 to 19 by Jocelyn Brown
Biology is not Dree’s thing. Equally heinous are English, social studies, her sister and mother, not to mention Edmonton in general. Toronto’s upcoming Renegade Craft Fair is where she belongs. On her 15th birthday, she will get the special fund her father promised, and the day after that she’ll be on Westjet Flight 233 to Toronto. Instead, her dad has a fatal heart attack, and all she finds are clues leading to the ominous Alberta Psychiatric Hospital where her paren'ts once worked. As Dree tries to unearth a mystery, and still pass science, she keeps searching for the money, and for a way to grieve her father.

Scott McCloud’s collection of Zot! stories, written and drawn twenty years ago, is now compiled in a single volume. Told in black and white comics, this coming-of-age story features Zot, the superhero from other earth, and Jenny, the high school student from this earth.

The Mitochondrial Curiosities of Marcels 1 to 19 is kind of sad, though it’s giving off this suspenseful sort of atmosphere. Kinda feels like those Nancy Drew novels.

I read Zot! and i loved the issues that were presented in it. There was stuff about homophobia, peer pressure, and other important issues but they were wrapped in a science fiction story. I think its really good and everyone should try to read it.

I’m goona have to make a mental note of these books so i can check them out the next time i go to the library becuase they definately look good. Too bad i already have to many holds on my account or else i’d be able to put a hold on these books oh well

The Mitochondrial Curiosities of Marcels 1 to 19 looks really interesting. I like the type of books where it is like a mystery book, but you sort of have to solve it as you go along too. Plus, stories with long, twisting, storylines are ones that keep me especially hooked. If I stumble upon a book that i love, I won’t put it down for a long time!! =]

I agree, the Mitochondrial Curiosities of Marcels 1 to 19 sounds really good. Sounds kinda like a mystery/adventure story to me. The setting is here in Canada, so I can relate it to my life here too. And although it sounds sad, sometimes things like this happen to many people. I must read this book…

None of these books seem like my type of book but I guess you never know until you try it out…..but I thik book about fantasy worlds like werewolf and vampires are more of those addictive books because they are something that put forth a new and unique story…..unlike some other books witch just make you feel like deja vu….but I think they interest me also because they allow me to see that no matter how hard you try you can never be perfect…..you are always going to have strengths and weaknesses……….also…these books allow you to escape the real world and explore something you have never seen……

Zot! looks like a cool book, even if it isn’t the newest book! It’s pretty nice to learn about how teens spent their lives before technology interfered. (no offense technology…i need technology to live!)

I just finished reading Zot! & it was really interesting. Imagining about a world that’s the same planet you live on, but it’s totally different at the same time. And having a relationship with a guy that’s a little 2 outgoing… I think everyone should read this book. It was pretty funny & nerve-wracking at times.
