The Battle of the Books that officially kicks off Word Out! 2009 is tonight.  Hope to see you all there!  Free to all, no advance registration required.  Featuring:

Jwyze_launch  Jen_launch   Jude_launch

  • Quintessential hype man, radio host J. Wyze from the Trauma Unit at FLOW 93.5
  • Jen (AKA Megan Fahlenbock) and Jude (AKA Christian Potenza) from 6Teen

The contending books have been been chosen.  There'll be prizes, food and intense (but civilized) combat-by-debate over the merits of the three books.  Bring yourself!  Bring your friends!  Bring a book!

ONLY ONE BOOK WILL TRIUMPH (but the other two will still be pretty good as well, we think)

  1. I read Wake by Lisa McMann and hope it wins the Battle. Has anyone read the next one in the series, Fade? Is it good too?

  3. I recently read Pieces of Me by Charlotte Gingras and it was pretty good. It was easy to read, succinct yet had some parts that were deep and thought provoking. I’m going to start reading Jerk, California soon! Hope it’s great as well.

  7. I don’t quite understand…Will they be arguing for us which book is best? Or will they take advice from the audience? Or will the audience do the arguing? Or will we have a huge chair fight to decide the winner?
I’m kidding on the last one.

  11. John C: we made all the participants agree to no chair fights when we set it up.
It’s going to be an audience participation / debate type of deal, with a ballot at the end to decide the winner. We’ll also have food and drink, door prizes, and some other fun stuff. Should be a good time and a proper kickoff for the summer.

  13. Last night i finished reading an amazing book called “Tweak” by Nic Sheff. Its a non-fiction book that explains the life of an on and off drug addict. The story is based on the life of none other than Nic Sheff himself. i wasn’t really into drug books before but this story will make me want to read more because its amazing how much he goes through. not only is he slowly falling apart, his loved ones are also falling apart from him. through the book he finds many other drug addicts and increases his intake. many people he knows and loved OD (overdose) themesleves, which causes him to intake even more. i suggest this book to all teens–whether you know alot about drugs or not. Its a heart-warming and amazing story. Please Read It!

  15. A book that I read was Secrets in the Attic by V.C. Andrews. It was really good and it was filled with suspense. If you like mystery books then I advise you to read it. It’s a little typical but it’s interesting how everyone ends up being connected. It’s really amazing, V.C. Andrews is an excellent author.

  17. Hey fellow readers, has anyone read “Caught in a lie” by Sylvia McNicoll? It’s such a great book, it’s about a teen age girl who wants to become a model, but her paren’ts disapprove. So she gets really sneaky, and applies for several modeling agencies, hoping to become a professional model. Well, I don’t wanna ruin it for you guys, so good luck reading it. Trust me, it teaches today’s teens a lot, and is very interesting, especially because many of us can relate to it.

  19. I also recommend you guys to read the Twilight series, regardless of your age and gender. Seriously, it’s such a great book, even for someone who doesn’t read fantasies regularly. Think about it, if so many million copies were sold, and it won so many awards, isn’t it worth a try? Most of us know a lot about Twilight already, but here’s a brief summary without spoiling it. Twilight is about a teenage girl, Bella, who goes to a new high school, and meets Edward, who turns out to be a vampire. They both learn a lot of new things and enjoy a lot, along with all of the hardships they have to go through. Hope you guys love Twilight 😀

  21. Air Head is a great book, try it. It’s about this girl who gets into an accident with a celebrity, and then the celebrity ends up dying, but then the celebrity’s body is alive, so they put her brain in the celebrity’s body. Then she explores life as a celebrity and learns that it’s what on the outside that matters, not the inside.

  23. What you guys should try is the House Of Night Series… oh ma gawsh! They’re soooo good! You wouldn’t believe it. It’s sort of like Twilight, but way better. It’s more teenage oriented. Some parts give you the creeps, others make you want to cry. It’s really good.
It’s about a girl who lives in a world where vampyres are known. Anyone can become a vampire, so on her first day of school she’s Marked. Which basically means she’s going to Change into a vampyre but she has to go to a fledgling highschool. Fledglings are teens turning into vamps. But during any of those 4 years, you could die unexpectedly due to the harsh effect it has on one’s body. But yea, she meets some friends and.. omg.. it’s just so good.

Those novels all feature some kind of mystery that propels the protagonists to risk everything to solve it and discover things about themselves along the way. Green’s books also contain a bit of romance and drama. His writing style is very witty and memorable!

  39. By the way, Twilight and the rest of the Vampire Saga are very mesmerizing books. I totally agree that the vampire/human world Stephenie Meyer has created is beautiful and dreamlike. The characters are also too interesting and perfect to be true. I would say the Twilight series is irrefutably a fun read, but it’s not a masterpiece.

Then she sees this “Have you seen this missing child” in her mail, and it looks so much like her son. Then the adventure moves on. You guys should try reading it, it’s such a unique book.

  83. I read this great book, Identical by Ellen H. My friend recommended it to me and it was awesome! It’s about what you think is two twins. But at the end it turns out that one of them is dead, and the other one was pretending to me the other one. Then she gets like metal aid, and everything starts to get better. She even see’s her mom more often.
