Book coverFlight Vol. 5 by Kazu Kibuishi

I have been a HUGE fan of the series Flight for some time now. The artwork and stories never cease to amaze me.  It has been nominated for the Harvey Awards.

It was just awesome to meet the editor Kazu Kibushi and contributor Kean Soo at the Keep Toronto Reading Graphically Speaking event in February 2008.

And here's a new flash, Volume 6 of Flight is coming out this summer!  It literally came out two days ago (July 21). So don't miss out on that one.

Elsa is a librarian at Toronto Public Library. She reads a lot of Canadian Young Adult fiction.

  1. I just finished reading ‘Zombie Queen of Newbury High’ by Amamda Ashby. This book is truly amazing.
Mia doesn’t want Rob to dump her right befor Prom. So she ends up doing a Love spell…but insted she ends up inflicting a Zombie virus on her whole senoir class.
    amazing book…..

  5. My favourite stories from Flight vol. 5 are “Worry Dolls” and “On the Importance of Space Travel”.
“Worry Dolls” made me laugh a lot.
Also, the art in “On the Importance of Space Travel” was really cute and reminds me of a manga-drawing style.

  7. :O! I’ve seen my sister read these, she was hooked on them. Kept ordering the same ones over and over. The covers always looked really nice to me, but I was too lazy to ask her if I could borrow them, plus she’d be jealous that I’d be stealing another graphic novel from her XD
Maybe I can use the fact that I read about Flight from here as an excuse to read the volumes 😛

  17. Lola, some of the stories have the same characters but those
can be read on their own. Some of the other stories are stand-alone. Hope that

  27. Flight was a really good book. All of the stories were interesting and even the ones without words or speech bubbles were very understandable and sometimes made better sense than other stories. After all, they say one picture could mean a thousand words. And just as I expected there were many different and creative stories.

  29. The story that I liked most was Worry Dolls by JP Ahonen. Mr. Moore recieve worry dolls for his anniversary with Selma and while sleeping, the worry dolls comes alive and goes into his bain to help. But during that process, they come to obstacles and animates Mr. Moore while he sleeps and the police gets involved. Unable to animate him the right way, Mr. Moore is sent craching into a grocery store and concidentally crashed in on a robbery. In the end, it was hilarious that they found a pair of glasses the female worry doll left behind in Mr. Moore’s brain.

Kazu Kibuishi…. sounds familiar i think i read a book by him its was called “Daisy Kutter”!Its really good its about a store-keeper who used to be a bandit and Her friend (who was her partner-in-crime) Tom now works as sheriff in the town.Daisy loses at poker to a mogul named Mr. Winters who later hires her to rob a train to “test the integrity of the guard” a supposedly perfect robot defense. Mr. Winters supposedly wants to not prove this foolproof claim. But, he is setting Daisy up for a fall.Daisy and Tom survive, Tom is injured seriously and stuck in a wheelchair at the end of the book. Daisy takes over as sheriff. I hope i didn’t ruin the book for you but i recommend it to each and every one of you!!!I can’t wait to read Flight Volume 6 it came out July 21st right? So it might take a while for it to reach the while so once i see it in the library, i am going to borrow it! I am also happy to see a familar author in the bunch!

I agree, if you’re ever going to read a series always try to read it in order. i’ve had the misfortune of reading a book in a aseries that was the second one. and when i finally read the first one i already kinda knew the outcome so it jsut makes it less exciting when you’re reading something out of order

I liked some of the short stories, there are definitely some seriously good ones in them, my only complaint is that some of them were all too…cute. Y’know what I mean? Maybe I’m old, but it’ll be cool to see different stories, ones that do not involve too many big eyed children or big eyed smiling monsters. Although I have no complaints there, they’re too cute ;D I’m looking forward to reading this volume.
