Kevin tightened his grip on the steering wheel and steeped harder on his accelerator. “I’m giving you a very special treat, Sandy; because you did well on your—chemo.”

Kevin pulled over and hurried to get the door for Sandra. While Sandra was slowly stepping out of the car, she shivered with the blowing cool wind. She was just wearing a long sleeve scrub suit, Kevin’s beanie, socks, slippers, and a band-aid on her left arm. Kevin quickly took his jacket from the back seat and wrapped it around Sandra.

 “Thanks…” It was a whisper.

Sandra gasped at the sight before her. She ran, making few quick but weak steps. Her breathing was heaved, exhausted by her light action. Around her was a wide meadow with tall grasses, scattered tulips, baby’s breath, and pretty dandelions. The end was a rocky border overlooking the sea. She took a deep breath, savouring the distinct salty scent. She had forgotten how long she had been standing alone. Her knees shook. Kevin grabbed her on her arm and waist. He let Sandra sit down on the grass and sat beside her. Sandra lay herself down and felt the soft pale greens around her with her hands.

Kevin reached for Sandra’s hand as his lips touched it. “I love you, Sandra Shawn.”

Sandra met the other’s eyes and noticed tears falling apart. She gently brushed them away with her other hand.

“I love you too, Kevin Woo.”

Kevin sobbed and held Sandra’s hand tighter back to his lips.

“Thanks you for taking me here, Kevin. This is beautiful, like a paradise…”
