Summer Reads: Fiction Picks
I don't know why but I always seem to get more reading done during the summer…it could be something to do with the long, lazy days or spending more time outdoors…but I zipped through quite a few fantastic books. My summer reading criteria: fiction, fun, compelling, interesting and readable. So, here are a some titles I suggest for summer or ANY season reading:
Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter: Gorgeous Italian settings, the tumultuous romance of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton during the 1962 filming of Cleopatra, and a witty take on the movie industry. What's not to love? (Also available in e-book format).
Seating Arrangements by Maggie Shipstead: The old money, ivy league Van Meter family come together at their summer home on Waskeke Island for a wedding but are almost torn apart by lies, lust, and envy. Plenty of high family drama. (Also available as an e-book and e-audiobook ).
The Uninvited Guests by Sadie Jones: This was on a reading list for fans of Downton Abbey, so I had to pick it up! Ghosts, manor houses, and long kept secrets abound. (Aslo available in e-book format.)
The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce: A letter from an old friend sets off an unlikely reaction from recent mild-mannered reitree Harold in this charming and feel good novel. (Also available in e-book format).
On The Island by Tracey Garvis Graves: The ultimate beach read romance. Teacher Anna is stranded on a deserted island with her 16 year old pupil. Will they survive and learn to live together? From originally self-published author Graves, this novel made it to the New York Times Bestseller List and even snagged a movie deal!
Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok: An inspirational account of a young woman's rise from sweatshop worker to academic and eventual doctor. (Available in e-book and e-audiobook formats).

These picks sound right up my alley! I found this list while searching for something else & I’m so glad I did. I realize that this is last year’s list but that’s ok. It’ll take me awhile to read these & by that time, this year’s list will be out!
