                                                      Merry wives of windsor

When I looked up information on The Merry Wives of Windsor I was surprised how many times it had been adapted for opera.  Verdi, Nicolai, Vaughan Williams are among those who have taken successful stabs at it, and even Antonio Salieri penned Falstaff with the plot of Merry Wives in mind.

If you want to learn more about The Merry Wives of Windsor, join us at the Toronto Reference Library Tuesday March 29, from 7-8 pm for a free lecture in the Appel Salon. Come listen to guest speaker Alexander Leggatt, professor emeritus at University College, University of Toronto, speak to the comically turned theme of revenge that rollics through the play.

An amusing version is not an opera at all, but a musical theatre adaptation set in Texas circa 1865… Lone Star Love
