Andy Goldsworthy – Beauty and Nature
English born and Scotland based, Andy Goldsworthy is a sculptor, installation artist and photographer. He draws his inspiration from the land and works with the materials of nature – ice, snow, frost, trees, leaves, stone, clay, sand and water.
One of his main interests is time. The publication with this theme contains the quote "I was always interested in seeing work change and decay, but usually as a spectator. Lately the challenge has been not simply to wait for things to decay, but to make change an integral part of a work's purpose, so that, if anything, it becomes stronger and more complete as it falls apart and disappears. I need to make works that anticipate, but do not attempt to predict or control, the future. In order to understand time, I must work with the past, present and future." The chronology in this book summarizes his work to the year 2000.
Since then, these books have been acquired by the library.
More recently the exhibition, "Incidental Objects" at the Haines Gallery in San Francisco, November 4 to December 24, 2010, displays some of his works. A brief video of the assembling of "Spire" in Presidio Park, is available to view there as well.
An artist who surprises with the beauty of working with nature.

Fabulous books & so wonderful that they are in the library collection.
I’ve been a fan of Goldsworthy’s work for years. Nice to see these new titles. Thanks! Gorgeous cover designs!
It exciting to see Mr Goldsworthy’s work and books highlighted on the TPL site. There’s no other artist quite like him. He’s truly inspiring. Thanks!

As each of us creates our life as a work of art, it’s helpful to remember during the process, “… it becomes stronger and more complete as it falls apart and disappears.”
