More Suggestions from TPL Staff
Do you ever sneak a peek at what your fellow TTC passengers are reading? I do. When I'm watching television, I'm always straining to see the book titles on the shelves behind the person being interviewed. This summer I've been asking library staff members about the books they're reading.
Erin:
The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
A woman tries to uncover her real identity, after it is revealed that she was not raised by her paren'ts.
Cathy:
The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins.
This trilogy has been a big hit with library staff. Cathy says she surprised by how good it was.

Graziela:
The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
Fiction and fact make a fine marriage in this charming novel about Hemingway's first marriage, told from Hadley's point of view.
The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett
The reader is none other than Queen Elizabeth who happens upon a mobile library and becomes hooked on reading. Her pursuit of literature causes concern among her advisers but the story of it makes for a funny, you can't put down read.
Paul:
The Gormenghast Novels by Mervyn Peake.
Peake's unfinished series is a masterpiece of Gothic fantasy fiction, and quite unlike anything ever written!
Catherine:
Vintage Caper by Peter Mayle
A light, easy read while you're waiting at places with a million distractions. Also learn something about expensive vintages while you're following the search for a missing cache in Provence.

Jane:
Zoo City by Lauren Beukes
Set in South Africa in the not too distant future. "Bad" people become "Animaled" and live in a ghetto called Zoo City. Responsible for her brother's death Zinzi acquires a sloth and a talent for finding lost things.
Jane Goes Batty by Michael Thomas
Jane Austen, vampire, has writer's block and her boyfriend's mother is coming to visit. Byron, the Lord, who turned her is still getting in the way! Sequel to Jane Bites Back.
A Lost Lady by Willa Cather
Written in 1923 but very modern in style and content. A tale of vanishing American values and a lady who gets lost along the way. This book was part of the library's Great Books series.

Russell:
Right now I'm reading The Great Karoo by Fred Stenson, an historical novel about Canadian involvement in the Boer War as witnessed by the character Frank Adams, a young cowboy from Alberta who joined the Canadian Mounted Rifles.
I recently finished Conn Iggulden's trilogy about Ghenghis Khan (Wolf of the Plains, Lords of the Bow and Bones of the Hills). This trilogy follows Ghenghis Khan as he survives the murder of his father, his family's expulsion from their tribe and his subsequent return as a force for the unification of the Mongols and their subjugation of the region from China to Eastern Europe.
Wolf of the Plains
Lords of the Bow
Bones of the Hills

As for me, I'm reading Before I Go to Sleep by S.J. Watson. The most talked about thriller of the summer is living up to its reputation. It's a real humdinger of a story about a woman with amnesia trying to reconstruct her past.
What are you reading this summer?
