The Play: Classic Comedy by Neil Simon
Barefoot in the Park is Neil Simon's entertaining exploration of relationships, aging and stepping outside your comfort zone. A newlywed, adventurous bride and her somewhat 'precise' husband find their way to get through the ups and downs of living together and matchmaking her mother and their quirky neighbour all within their first week and a half of marriage. The top floor of a 1960’s New York City brownstone is the perfect setting for Corie Bratter and Victor Velasco, her neighbour, to help Corie help her husband Paul and mother Ethel to find joy in life and run "barefoot in the park."

MEN
Paul Bratter: Newly married to Corie, Mid to late 20’s, new professional, lawyer, focused on his career, hesitant to be outside of his comfort zone, straight as an arrow, loves Corie for her energy
Victor Velasco: Late 50’s, in good physical shape, eccentric, free spirit, afraid of getting old, looks at life a little differently from the majority, loves a challenge and loves to “educate” others on his approach to life
Telephone Repair Man: Any age, experienced, “salt of the earth”, has seen everything, sarcastic sense of humour, pretends to not pay attention but does care, out of shape
Delivery Man: (off-stage)
WOMEN
Corie Bratter: Newly married to Paul, Mid to late 20’s, free spirit, lots of energy, ready to try anything new, feels that everyone has something to offer, loves Paul for his stability
Ethel Banks: Corie’s mother, 40 – 50 years old, not one for change, comfortable in the life she has…which isn’t very exciting, used to spoiling Corie, lack of confidence with men

Requirements: Please prepare a short comedic Monologue – less than 90 seconds! You may be re-directed or asked to do a cold reading from the play. Please read the play. A copy of the play will be on hold at the 5th floor Audio Desk, Toronto Reference Library. Please bring photo (photocopy will do) and resume.

We will be booking individual auditions in 10 minute slots. Please indicate the roles in which you are interested.
Auditions and Rehearsals will be held at 780 Birchmount, Unit 5 (West side of Birchmount, south of Eglinton, beside the Low Carb Food Outlet. TTC accessible by #17 Bus from Warden Station or any Eglinton West bus from Kennedy Station)
Some rehearsals and all performances are at Scarborough Village Theatre, 3600 Kingston Road (at Markham Road).
Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. and Sundays, 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.
First read-through will be Tuesday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m. with rehearsals beginning Tuesday, August 2nd.
Additional rehearsals may be added as we move closer to the production opening.
This production will be adjudicated for the 2016-2017 Act-Co Festival.
Scarborough Players is an inclusive community theatre company and encourages all interested individuals from
all back grounds to audition. Those auditioning must be Non-Equity performers and understand that this is
a non-paying production.
