The Play: This faithful, fast-moving stage adaptation of the classic film features fluid scene changes and scores of beefy roles. It is not only a joyful Christmas tale- it’s the gorgeous love story of George and Mary Bailey, a vivid portrait of the greatest generation, a descent into the darkest hour of a man trapped by circumstance, and a powerful meditation on what makes a meaningful life.

Characters: 
This play has a large ensemble of characters that includes 20 principle roles more than 30 minor roles.
Actors may be asked to double various characters.

The Principle Roles include:
Adults
George Bailey – the protagonist
Mary Bailey – George’s wife
Mrs. Bailey- George’s mother
Uncle Billy – Building and Loan
Cousin Tilly- Building and Loan
Cousin Eustace- Building and Loan
Clarence- a low ranking angel
Annie – the maid for Ma and Pop Bailey
Harry Bailey – George’s younger brother
Violet Bick – an attractive young woman
Mr. Potter – the most powerful business man in Bedford Falls
Bert – the cop
Ernie – the cabbie
Mr. Carter- the bank examiner
Mr. Gower – the owner of the drugstore
Mr. Martini – owner of the tavern
The Children
Peter Bailey – the oldest
Janie Bailey – oldest daughter
Zuzu- youngest daughter
Tommy – the youngest

Other young roles are the children from 1919
Young George, Young Harry, Young Sam, Young Mary and Young Violet

CALLBACKS: (IF NEEDED) Saturday, September 16 from 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
(CALLBACKS ONLY: PLEASE BE PREPARED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THE FULL 3 HOURS

Requirements: Please prepare a short monologue no more than 2 minutes you feel best relates to the time period, location and characters captured in this play. You may be re-directed. You may also be asked to do a cold reading from the play. Please read the play. A copy of the play will be on hold at the Arts Information Desk, Toronto Reference Library – 5th floor . Please bring photo (photocopy will do) and resume.

Children’s Audition
Sunday, September 10, 2017 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
We are looking for children 5 – 14 years-old
This is a group audition – a monologue is not required. Please wear comfortable clothes.
If absolutely necessary, if a child cannot attend the group audition, we will book child's audition into a 10-minute slot during the adult times. Please note: the director would rather see children working together in the group audition.

Auditions are booked in 10 minute slots. Please indicate the role(s) in which you are interested.

Auditions and Rehearsals will be held at 780 Birchmount, Unit 5 (West side of Birchmount, south of Eglinton, beside the Low Carb Food Outlet. TTC accessible by #17 Bus from Warden Station or any Eglinton West bus from Kennedy Station). 

Some rehearsals and all performances are at Scarborough Village Theatre, 3600 Kingston Road (at Markham Road).
Most Rehearsals will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. and Sundays, 1:00 – 5 p.m.
First read-through will be Sunday, September 24 at 1:00 pm.
Additional rehearsals may be added as we move closer to the production opening.  You will be asked to please list ANY potential conflicts from September 19 to December 16, 2017 on your audition forms.

Scarborough Players is an inclusive community theatre company and encourages all interested individuals from
