AUDITION NOTICE
On the eve of a papal conclave, a young Canadian journalist travels to a fictional Latin American country to interview a papal candidate about his activities during a period of disappearances under a former military junta. The playwright, Alice Abracen, is in the National Theatre School playwrights program.
MEGAN GUTIERREZ (27) – Canadian journalist, passionate, not always as on top of things as she thinks
LAURA BALKAN-KOHN (40s) – Political science professor, outspoken, witty, born Jewish
MATIAS IGLESIAS (72 but could pass for 55) – Cardinal and papal candidate: charming, articulate, clever, first language is Spanish
ANGELO FLORES (42) – General in the military junta, charming when he wants to be, but essentially manipulative
GABRIEL MEJIA (25) – Priest with pure intentions, from a simple country background
Rehearsal tentatively planned to be Tuesdays and Thursdays (7-10 pm) and Sundays (11-4 pm), starting October 31. Actors must be fully available for all tech rehearsals.
The Alumnae Theatre Company is a non-paying (NON-UNION) theatre company which encourages diversity in its membership and casting.
PREPARATION
Please prepare a 2-minute dramatic monologue. You will also be asked to read from the script.
Please read the play before auditioning. A reading copy is available at the 5th floor Arts desk of the Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street.
