AUDITION & REHEARSAL LOCATION
Scarborough Theatre Guild Rehearsal Unit – 21AS Midland Avenue, Unit 16, Scarborough, Ontario
(the building is immediately north of the Midland LRT station on east side, south of Progress. The unit and
both driveway exits face Cosentino Drive)

REHEARSALS
Rehearsals will commence in early January, usually on 3 nights per week. The actual schedule will be
decided upon by the director, stage manager and cast.

SYNOPSIS
Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands' graves. lda is sweet
tempered and ready to begin a new life. Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun.
Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. Doris and Lucille
squash the budding romance between Sam and lda but are guilt stricken when this nearly breaks lda's heart.
This is a heart-warming tale of true friendship and the constant struggle for love.

REQUIREMENTS
Please prepare a two-minute monologue- Cold readings from the script will also be required. lf called back, you will
be asked to read from the script with other actors. Please bring a resume and recent head-shot.
We need strong actors with a great sense of comedic timing. Think Jewish "Golden Girls"

Cast Descriptions

All characters below are mid 50's to mid 60's, (perhaps up to 70 for Sam)
Role Description

lda Ida is ihe gentlest and most charming of the three widowed friends and
the one who faces life most realistically. She is ready to move on past
orief and to acceot new challenoes.

Lucille Lucille is the most brazen one, always looking for a good deal, a good
time and always looking to "get even" with her unfaithful husband.

Doris Doris is the most conservative of the three and the one who refuses to
change any element in her life. She adheres to her strict principles of
love and resoect and exoects her friends to do the same.

Sam Sam is the local butcher and still moums the death of his wife. He
realizes that life has much to offer and is willing to take a chance on
haopiness aqain.

Mildred Mildred is a show-off and a flirt. A smaller role but with a BIG personality.

Character age ranges listed are for stage portrayal. Actual actor ages may be flexible to allow for optimum
matching and chemistry between actors.
