The Play

I Hate Hamlet is a deliberately over-the-top comedy. Andrew is a successful Los Angeles TV actor who has
come to New York to play Hamlet in Central Park but has second thoughts. His girlfriend, Deirdre, his acting
agent, Lillian and his real estate broker, Felicia all support the endeavour,but his Hollywood producer, Gary,
has a million-dollar TV project lined up for Andrew that can’t miss. Enter the ghost of legendary actor, John
Barrymore credited with one of the greatest stage portrayals of Hamlet.

All roles to be played with a maximum of comic enthusiasm and vigor.

ANDREW RALLY, 25-35, Bright eyed & popular; a charming, successful TV actor who becomes overwhelmed & challenged by his new role

FELICIA DANTINE, 30-5, Andrew’s pushy real-estate broker; eccentric, séance believer who speaks to the dead

DEIRDRE McDAVEY, 20-30Andrew’s girlfriend; attractive, emotional, sunny, wildly romantic, a beacon of breathless wonder
and high moral values

LILLIAN TROY, 50-70 Andrew’s acting agent; no-nonsense, hard-smoking, German; a one-time Barrymore flame

JOHN BARRYMORE, 40-50, Legendary actor; flamboyant, lecher, lush, larger than life; able to put the ‘ham’ in Hamlet

GARY PETER LEFKOWITZ, 40-60, Andrew’s Hollywood TV Producer; shamelessly exuberant, crass, appalling & irresistible

LOCATION:

Auditions and Rehearsals will be held at 780 Birchmount, Unit 5 (West side of Birchmount,
south of Eglinton, beside Allison’s Fine Food. TTC accessible by #17 Bus from Warden Station or any
Eglinton West bus from Kennedy Station).

PREPARATION

Please prepare a comedic monologue – MAXIMUM 2 minutes in length. There will be readings from the script
so read the play before you audition. Please email a copy of your résumé and a picture with your audition
request. However, we do ask that you please bring a copy of your photo (photocopy will do) and your résumé
to the audition. We do not print them.

REHEARSALS:

Start Sunday, March 25, 2018 at 1 p.m. (traditionally TUESDAY/THURSDAY evenings /SUNDAY afternoon
schedule) with some table work to be scheduled in late February early March.

All performances are at Scarborough Village Theatre, 3600 Kingston Road (at Markham Road).
Scarborough Players is an inclusive community theatre company and encourages all interested individuals from
all back grounds to audition.We do not cast ACTRA/Equity actors.

We do not enter into any contracts or agreements with CAEA or ACTRA.
If cast, you must join Scarborough Players. Membership Fees of $20 are due at the first rehearsal.
