The Story:
Elaine Wheeler is a wealthy heiress and modern art collector, living with her handsome stock-broker husband in an elegant remodeled townhouse in New York City. Though it would appear that she has the best of everything, she seems lost, haunted by a turbulent past, beset by alarming fear. When she suddenly cries out that she sees a dead man in the abandoned tenement across the back fence, the household is thrown into turmoil. Despite the best efforts of her husband, best friend Blanche, the NYPD, and a psychiatrist to reassure her, she remains adamant that a murder has been committed. Do Appleby, a nosy neighbour, or Helga, the eavesdropping maid, know more than they’re letting on?
