A STING IN THE TALE

Two playwrights trying to write a new murder mystery, end up crafting the perfect murder. They already have the perfect victim. 

ON STAGE: November 3 – 25, 2023(Non-union, non-paying. We are unable to cast Equity or ACTRA members.)


AUDITIONS will be held IN PERSON at the VILLAGE PLAYHOUSE (2190E Bloor St. West; just east of Runnymede subway station) at the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, August 10, 7:00pm – 10:00pm
  • Saturday, August 12, 10:00am – 3:00pm

Callbacks (if needed) will also be held in person at the VILLAGE PLAYHOUSE: 

  • Tuesday, August 15, from 7:00pm

 REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES will be held AT THE VILLAGE PLAYHOUSE. Rehearsals will generally be Tuesdays and Thursdays (evenings) and Sundays (afternoons) but are flexible depending on actor availability. The first rehearsal (readthrough) will be on Tuesday, August 22, at 7:00pm. All actors must be available for Tech Week (Sunday, October 29, to Wednesday, November 1), the preview performance (Thursday, November 2) and all 14 performances (November 3–4, 8–12, 16–19, and 23–25).

 THE PLAY:    Two once successful crime-writing playwrights endeavouring to complete a block-buster to pay off their mounting debts, or are they? As the plot develops, they realise their full potential – who better to accomplish the perfect murder than themselves? To see more, click HERE.

NOTE: Physical comedy will be required.

CHARACTERS: 

  • NIGEL FORBES – male, mid 40’s, tall, attractive, cultured, well groomed, good diction.
  • MAX GOODMAN – male, 40’s, short, thinning/bald or badly cut hair, nervous, total opposite of Nigel, can be erratic.
  • JILL PRENTICE – female, 30-ish, pretty, petite,  smart, kind, helpful.
  • ANN FORBES – female, 40’s, tall, cold, pale, well groomed, stark.
  • DETECTIVE INSPECTOR BERRY – male or female, 30’s, tall, thin, lanky, mournful.

 PREPARATION:  Auditions will be cold reads from the script. Please READ THE PLAY before your audition (a copy will be available upon request).
