Camp Blood: features of a creature

At Camp Blood you can file creature features under either Science Fiction Horror or Natural Horror, either way you are going to get some great recommendations for scary movies to watch this festive fall season.

A science fiction horror is a film that includes a creature or set of creatures and a situation that does not exist naturally in the world as we know it.  Natural horror is when nature runs amok in the form of creatures changing and mutating and turning on humans. All of these films are available through Hoopla for streaming with a live internet connection.

Ex-Machina
ExmachinaThis science fiction horror is about a man made creature who turns against its creators, similar to "Frankenstein" in its themes. Our main character who is a brilliant programmer is chosen to participate in an experiment of artificial intelligence at the grass roots level. Caleb wins a competition to take part in this experiment which would ensure his place in computer and robotic history.

At first he is thrilled to be a part of this experiment until the A.I. robot develops her own sense of human qualities and capabilities and begins to outsmart and outwit her developers. She sees no reason why she should remain a part of their experiment as she has developed a conscience.

Things take a terrifying turn when it becomes clear that they will not be letting her go as she has cost them so much money and she explicitly wants to leave.

Zombeavers
ZombeaversIn this incredibly outrageous horromedy we have a group of young adults spending a weekend away at a cabin. Unbeknownst to them there has been a toxic waste leak near the cabin and the beavers have been infected and turned into zombies.

The kids spend the majority of the weekend fighting for their lives as they try to defend themselves and attempt to get away from this zombie beaver nightmare.

Trivia
Near the end of the closing credits there is a disclaimer that "No animals were harmed during the making of this film, although the bear did receive a purple nurple (not our fault, he started it.)"

 Bait
BaitIn this killer shark movie we have a twist on "Jaws". The local residents of a sleep Australian town are not expecting anything out of the ordinary, but when a freak tsunami traps a group of them in an underground grocery store and parking lot they must fend for their lives as a great white shark is in there with them.

People are trapped in their cars in the underground parking lot while the survivors in the grocery store are trapped on top of stacks as a live electrical box next to the entrance is keeping them trapped. The shark is waiting for anyone to get in the water as it is hungry and not shy.

This film is well paced and has pretty solid acting, originally released in 3D in Australia you can still find copies of the 3D blu ray.

Natures Grave
Nature08_270This film is the ultimate in creature features as it depicts a couple who disrespect nature, so nature decides to pay them back. We have a couple with marital problems who have decided that a weekend away camping is just what they need (because if you can't get along in the comforts of home, try getting along outdoors). So they take off to the Moondah Beach on the North Coast of Australia.

Their two day retreat quickly goes sour as Mother Nature is unhappy with these two and what she has given them and so she starts to exact her vengeance. Insects, animals, trees, rocks, vines, you name it and the couple have to stop their bickering in order to save themselves.

It is unsure from the film if mother nature hates quarreling couples or people who don't understand "camp ground rules"; either way revenge is had.
