Camp Blood: They’re coming to get you [insert name here]!!
For the final 2016 Camp Blood installment we are going to focus on horror comedies or "horromedies" as they are sometimes called. All of the films listed below can be streamed through the libraries service of hoopla.
Our first title is the camp classic and the original version of:
The Little Shop of Horrors

Not only does this film feature Jack Nicholson in one of his first film roles, it was also remade in the 1980's as a musical. This b-film is your typical boy meets girl and they fall in love, but what is keeping them apart is the fact that Seymour has a man-eating plant that he has named after his girl "Audrey".
It is unclear in this film where the plant comes from, in the remake it is from outer space, but that just makes this film more interesting. Although the film has low production values, it is fascinating to see what you can do with ambition and a little money.
This film is unintentionally funny and not really that scary compared to today's horror films, but it is always nice to take a walk down memory lane.
What We Do in the Shadows

This mockumentary is amazing! Hands down one of the funniest films about vampires ever to be made. Coming out of Australia it features four vampires from different facets of vampiric life and how they have managed to evolve and live together as roommates.
The film tackles fashion issues (when you cannot see your reflection it is hard to know if you look good), roommate conflicts, blood types that taste better and just trying to get by and live a quality undead life.
This film is not scary in the classic sense, but is a great send up of so many different vampire movies. Well worth the watch for the many laughs.
Stan Helsing

This is not a very good movie. It is in fact filled with larfs, gross humor and it lacks any serious plot. However if you want to check out for an hour and a half and have some silly laughs – then I cannot recommend this movie enough.
In the vein of "Airplane" or "Scary Movie" this satire is making fun of the film "Van Helsing" but instead of the intrepid vampire killer it is with his nephew Stan Helsing. Stan is oblivious to a lot of things and that is where the humor is derived from.
The best part of the movie is Leslie Nielson in drag, watch it just for that.
The Faculty

This Kevin Williams effort came quickly on the heals of the success of the "Scream" movie. Focusing on an alien takeover the film satirizes high school cliques and what happens when the group of kids who would never hang out together, have no choice but to work together to solve the slow takeover of the school.
Lots of great moments and clever dialogue raise this film above standard stuff. We also get to see a young Elijah Wood before his hobbit fame rose him to stardom.
This one is a bit scarier than it is funny, so keep that in mind.
