Way back in 1990 Madonna went on a very ambitious world tour. The blond ambition world tour to be exact and whilst on the tour she had a director and camera crew follow herself and her back up singers and dancers around to film all the behind the scenes. The massive amounts of footage were eventually edited down to be the 2 hour and 11 minute documentary knows as "Truth or Dare" in North America and known as "In Bed With Madonna" throughout Europe.
The fascinating thing about this documentary is not just that it is about Madonna and does a great job of making her human and real, but that it also was a humanizing moment for all of those who work behind the scenes to make Madonna the icon that she is. We get to see her troupe of naive and young dancers that are being given the chance of a lifetime, we get to see her singers, her make up artists and all those people who's time and effort make a world tour happen. We also get live musical numbers interspersed throughout the film and they alone are worth it.
In fact this documentary has inspired another documentary about the lives of those backup dancers 25 years later.
