FAQ #2: “Connect Me to the WWW Already!”
The library offers free full-access, unfettered wireless Internet service to all our members and non-members. Providing access to the Internet allows residents of Toronto and its visitors to engage in online activities that are important to them.
As more and more businesses and organizations in the city connect their customers to the world’s most powerful network, what makes our wireless Internet service sparkle from the rest? Here are some reasons…
1. Unlimited Wifi Access – enjoy uninterrupted access for as long as we’re open
2. Periodic Service Refreshments & Upgrades – the library has provided wireless Internet access since 2007. We’ve expanded, upgraded and refreshed our service periodically since then.
3. No purchases Required – hop on the wireless network without having to spend money on a snack or beverage… you can actually bring your own and save money.
4. Multiuse space – ideal whether you’re looking for a quiet environment or group study while using the Internet.
5. Access to Library Resources – A great pool of published resources that support your online endeavours.
Ok, so you understand the benefits, but now you want in! Here is how the wireless login process typically works:
1. Enable your device to receive the wireless signal (“ON” is usually the default)
2. Ensure that you’re connected to the Toronto Public Library Network (there may be nearby signals) by opening your connection settings to see available wireless networks.
3. Open your web browser
4. Agree to the terms and conditions by checking the box
5. Click connect and wait to be redirected to our website.
Here are some common troubleshooting problems:
1. Proxies – remove your proxy settings. Click here to learn how.
2. Firewall – disable firewall. For Windows XP users, click here to learn how.
3. Disconnecting – everytime your laptop closes, you lose the wireless connection. Repeat the login process, steps 1-5.

By the way, the wireless signal is the strongest in four areas:
1st floor – on the north side in the west wing (children's department) and on the north side in the east wing (Holds for pickup area).
2nd floor – in the centre on the west wing (non-fiction) and in the centre on the east wing (fiction)
