Does the thought of math and numbers make you cringe? Well, it shouldn't! Math really can be fun, especially with young children. It is amazing to see the excitement and joy my three year old gets from counting and solving very basic math problems.  I brought home the book Bedtime Math, and I was surprised at how much we enjoyed reading and solving the simple word problems in it together.

Basic concepts in math can be learned at an early age, and are fun activities for young kids. You will be surprised at how quickly they pick things up.  By doing math activities in a fun environment you are creating a positive association with math, which many of us do not have, and you are helping to prepare them for school.

The Barbara Frum branch will be hosting the program Esso Family Math from Friday November 8 – Friday December 6, from 10:15-11:15 AM.  This program is for children ages 3-6 with their caregivers, and is run in partnership with Macaulay Child Development Centre.  Families will participate in number games and activities. Register in person or by calling, 416-395-5440.
