Each year the London-based Literary Review presents the Bad Sex in Fiction Award.  This award commemmorates "redundant or egregious sex scenes in a novel that's otherwise quite good".  The 2010 winner is The Shape of Her by Rowan Somerville, a novel that is only available in England thus far.

This year Canadian author Annabel Lyon was nominated for a scene in her novel The Golden Mean.  In a Globe and Mail interview she noted that she was "deeply honoured" to be included among the finalists.

Other titles on the shortlist were:

Freedom by Jonathan Franzen
Heartbreak by Craig Raine
A Life Apart by Neel Mukherjee
Maya by Alastair Campbell
Mr. Peanut by Adam Ross
The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas

  1. I’ve always followed the Bad Sex Award, since it was origin in the British magazine Literary Review (when Auberon Waugh was editor). I think Lady Diana presented the award at a gala dinner one year. Thanks for the reminder — haven’t thought of it in years.
