February
By: Lisa Moore
The oil rig Ocean Ranger was a mobile off shore drilling unit that was drilling an exploratory well on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland when it sank during a storm on February 15, 1982. All 84 crew members were lost in the disaster.
Lisa Moore uses this real life event as a starting point in February. Cal O’Mara was killed on the Ocean Ranger, leaving behind his wife Helen and their 3 small children. Now 25 years later, Helen still struggles to come to terms with the event, haunted by the memory of her husband, imagining his final moments. Although Helen has survived, she has never managed to move on with her own life and her grief has become her identity.
