Beyond 140 characters: Books inspired by Twitter

Twitter has been around for just less than 7 years, but has already become an important tool for communication.  Some of the most popular feeds are by Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.  Speaking of popular feeds, the next time you log into Twitter, don't forget to follow Toronto Public Library (@torontolibrary) and Book Buzz (@TPLBookBuzz).

A few people have created twitter feeds that have gained enough followers that they have been able to publish books that are a collection of their most popular tweets, or are inspired by their feed. 

Everything is PerfectEverything Is Perfect When You're A Liar by Kelly Oxford (@kellyoxford). This Calgary stay-at-home mother of three became friends with many celebrities  (such a Jimmy Kimmel, Rashida Jones, Seth Rogen and Roger Ebert) through her witty and popular Twitter feed.   In this collection of  essays, she tells different stories from her life, such her attempt to produce a Star Wars play in her backyard when she was six, through the mishaps and bad decisions of adolescence to the anxieties and frustrations of motherhood.

White Girl Problems by Babe Walker (@whitegrlproblem) is social satire on our celebrity-obsessed culture in the guise of a memoir by the writers of the popular White Girl Problems twitter feed (brothers Tanner and David Oliver Cohen and their friend, Lara Schoenhals).  In this story, Babe Walker, the poor-little-rich-girl goes
from the lap of luxury to rehab after a shopping spree meltdown
at Barneys.

 

Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern (@shitmydadsays) was the first popular twitter feed to be made into a book.  It was later made into a television show starring William Shatner.  The book is a collection of his tweets, which are  quotes from his cranky, tough talking father.
