Recently widowed Harriet Chance takes the Alaskan cruise that her late husband had planned before his death. Their children, however, are concerned about Harriet’s health. Their mother is 79 after all and she’s begun seeing things that aren’t there–Bernard, her deceased husband for example. Harriet, however, takes stock of her life and realizes this might be the last chance she has to take this sort of trip. She plans to scatter Bernard’s ashes and move on with her life. Instead a letter awaits her on board, revealing that Harriet may not have been Bernard’s intended cabin mate. Instead of moving on with her life, Harriet spends the cruise revisiting the decisions she made that had a lasting impact on her life and slowly coming to terms with mistakes she’s made.

Book Buzz 2017 Reading Challenge!

Visit Book Buzz and participate in our very popular annual reading challenge.

Participants are asked to read 10 books of their own choosing, 1 book from 10 different categories. Past categories have included: reread a childhood favourite, read a banned or challenged book, read something that has a colour in the title or in the author’s name.

This year’s categories will be posted on January 2.

Participants can read whatever they like in the challenge as long as it fits into one of the categories. You can stick to your normal reading habits or get adventurous and try something outside of your comfort zone.

There is no referee enforcing rules and no one to pass judgement on your reading choices. The most important thing is to enjoy whatever you’re reading in 2017.

Visit the Book Buzz Challenge Reading Site to keep us posted about your progress. Share your reading experiences, find out what others have read and get recommendations.

Book prizes are awarded to those who complete the challenge. The challenge is open to all ages although the prizes are mostly adult-level books.

Get started by becoming a Book Buzz member. You’re welcome to participate in all of our activities including our monthly book discussion.
