Kazuo Ishiguro Awarded Nobel Prize for Literature
After 2016's controversial selection of Bob Dylan for the award, the Nobel committee has opted for somewhat safer ground this year, presenting the coveted prize to Kazuo Ishiguro. Ishiguro was born in 1954 in Nagasaki, Japan but has lived in England since he was five years old, when his father was a researcher at the National Institute of Oceanography in Guildford, Surrey.
Announcing the award, Sara Danius said, "If you mix Jane Austen and Franz Kafka, then you have Kazuo Ishiguro in a nutshell, but you have to add a little bit of Marcel Proust into the mix. Then you stir, but not too much, then you have his writings."
