2021 Booker Prize Shortlist Announced
The Booker Prize shortlist, announced on September 14, celebrates unique stories from around the world. There are three American writers who have been nominated. Nadifa Mohamed, a Somali/British writer, is the only British finalist. Until 2014, the prize was restricted to writers from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Commonwealth of Nations and Zimbabwe. It was then opened to all novels written in English and published in the UK. Although some British writers, including Zadie Smith and Ian McEwan, have opposed the change, there are no plans to revert to the original rules.
There are no Canadian authors on the shortlist this year, although Rachel Cusk and Mary Lawson were both on the longlist.
