  1. Who’s genius idea was it to require each episode to be borrowed separately? So with the 8 title per month restriction, each series would take roughly 3 months to watch? Utterly ridiculous!

  2. I welcome the opportunity to be able to learan via The Great Courses. I do share the concerns of Ess Gee, above…but don’t feel the need to rant. (Filter, Ess Gee, filter. First world problems…)
It would be great if the library could either:
a.) increase our monthly Hoopla allowance
    or
b.) ask Hoopla to put 2 or 3 episodes together as one checkout unit.
We could then proceed through a course more comfortably.
Please keep us posted if there’s a change.
    Thx

  3. Ess Gee and Kaila,
Thank you very much for your comments about Hoopla. I’ll be sure to pass them along to the library staff who are responsible for our digital services. I’m sure they will pass along this feedback to Hoopla staff as well.
I hope this limitation will not discourage you from making use of this service. Also, please remember that The Great Courses are available in DVD format as well. These DVD series are checked out for three weeks, instead of the usual seven days for DVDs.

  4. Aww, did that come across as a rant? Apologies to the easily offended.
All I was saying is that a little common sense goes a long way.
(Product testing Kaila, Product testing. Has never hurt anyone.)
I raised this concern with Hoopla a while ago. They said TPL was responsible for how the rentals & restrictions were designed. Anyhow, for the Great Courses this service is not very useful, as it stands. But will use for single titles although still prefer good ol’ DvDs.

  6. While I am extremely grateful for and excited about the Great Courses, a borrow bundle or increased allowable monthly borrows would facilitate a more useful and functional experience.
Perhaps more important is the notable absence of the PDF guidebooks. These are extremely helpful to orient and plan out your path through the course. Is there any way to make these available to borrow as well?
Thanks for making the Great Courses available nonetheless!
