3D Printing Is Coming!!!
I know that’s really nothing new to report, in fact 3D printing has been around for quite some time, but what I really meant was that it’s coming to the library and to the new Digital Innovation Hub shortly.
Just this afternoon, library staff from both the Toronto Reference Library and Fort York was given a great demonstration, thanks to HackLab member Rob. In addition staff also had the opportunity to open up one of our newly delivered 3D printers and set it up and start playing with it.
Stay tuned for more updates and information on the blog and be sure to check out following class on 3D Design. Register for it before it fills up.
Also check out Shapify, a great company that is trying to make scanning and printing a 3D replica of you a lot easier and cheaper. All you need is a Kinect camera and the software and your set. Development for a MAC version of the software has already begun and should be out shortly. Once you submit the file, the cost of the product is $59 which includes shipping and takes about two weeks for delivery.
Here’s a great video on the process and how simple Shapify can be.
Have fun!!
Greg
