It is the first appearance on the Giller Prize shortlist for Ed O'Loughlin and Michelle Winters; Rachel Cusk, Michael Redhill and Eden Robinson have been nominated previously although none of them have won'the award.
The prize is one of the most lucrative in Canadian literature with a $100,000 prize for the winning author. Shortlisted authors each receive $10,000. The award will be presented at a gala on November 20.
