Is eating making us fat?

Most of us would likely say yes to this question. After all, the focus of most diets is on calorie count and fat content. Upon reflection though, we may realize that it's not just what we eat but how we eat that matters. Yet little attention is paid to eating habits. A case in point… do you sit down during your break to enjoy your lunch or do you wolf down your sandwich while working away at the computer?

Here are some tips for healthier eating habits…

  • Eat slowly… it gives the stomach time to signal the brain when it's full
  • Sit down to eat… it helps to savour and digest your food
  • Using a small plate tricks the eye making us believe we have a bigger portion
  • Keeping tempting food out of sight cuts down on false hunger attacks
  • Removing leftovers right away helps to desist from overeating
  • Do NOT nibble while watching TV…packs on empty calories
  • Do NOT skip meals…it slows your metabolism down
  • Do NOT eat when emotionally stressed… go for a walk, call a friend or do something fun instead
