The 10 Happiest Jobs

Recently I saw an article in the Globe and Mail that talked about the 10 happiest jobs. A Study done by the University of Chicago reported these to be:

Clergy, Firefighters, Physical Therapists, Authors, Special Education Teachers, Artists, Psychologists, Financial Services Sales Agents, and Operating Engineers!!

It is interesting to note that these are not the highest paying jobs, nor are they the jobs with the highest social status. What the article states is that the difference between the happiest jobs and the most disliked jobs is that the happy jobs feel worthwhile and meaningful. Social interaction, idealism, and autonomy are all factors which contribute to high job satisfaction.

TPL has many books about job satisfaction, work motivation, the psychological aspects of work and the work environment. Here are some books available for borrowing:

  1. Interesting article. Its true that the highest paying jobs need not be the happiest jobs because they come with more stress and demands. As a result, this leads to less happiness. I believe in the age old saying “do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”.
