Jobs at the City of Toronto
Are you looking for a job? If so, the City of Toronto is looking for people who are not only interested in public service, but who are people of integrity, good judgment and discretion and who care about the many services that our city provides.
You can find out more about Jobs at the City from the City of Toronto's website. Current, ongoing and summer opportunities (when applicable) are included. While it's true that some jobs are only open to those who are already employed by the City (internal applicants), many are posted externally (for external applicants).
You're also invited to the City of Toronto Career Information Event, a free program coming to the Toronto Reference Library on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 (10 am – 4 pm). Meet City staff and find out how to apply for City job opportunities, and the skills and experience required in different careers in the Toronto Public Service. More than 30 City divisions, agencies, boards and commissions participate in this event.
As we are administered by our own board, the Toronto Public Library Board whose members are appointed by City Council, you will find Toronto Public Library on the City's list of Agencies, Committees and Corporations. However, to find out about job and volunteer opportunities at Toronto Public Library, start at our homepage. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you'll see a section in blue with headings in yellow.
To find jobs, look under the first heading, About the Library, and click on Jobs at the Library. Be advised, however, that openings for pages (shelvers) are not posted. For all positions, simply submit a completed External Application Form (DOC) to the local library that you are interested in working at, either in person or by mail. We do not confirm receipt of applications, and your application will be kept on file for six months.
To find volunteer opportunities, look under Support Your Library on the home page, and click on Volunteering. By volunteering you can often gain the needed experience for finding paid work. You might also check out Volunteer Toronto or 211 Toronto for other opportunities.
Toronto Reference Library also has lots of resources to help you in your job search. The recent My Brilliant Career! post outlines some of these for you. And our Job and Career Help landing page is always being updated with new job search tips and resources.
Thank you for considering service to this great city.

This is great, but unfortunately as it is during business hours I would not be able to attend. I already have a job but would like to change, and when Career Info days are held on weekdays it is difficult for those who want to change career directions to look for a new position.
Dear Sara,
thanks for your comments. I have passed these on to Eva Lew, Manager of Business, Science and Technology at the Toronto Reference Library. She will pass them on to the City organizers for the event. They are keen to receive any comments from the public about the Event.
Sincerely,
Michal
Great opportunity.
