Is your pre-schooler ready for reading?
Toronto Public Library has been offering Reading for Reading programs across the city since 2006. The programs are meant to engage your baby to pre-schooler in reading events that promote a love of reading through activites, songs and books. Recently Global TV visited S Walter Stewart to see Ready for Reading in action. Here is a clip from that broadcast.
The programs are free, frequent and fun! Visit your local branch to see when these are scheduled for your child. Toronto Public Library has also created a guide to help paren'ts and caregivers continue the library experiences at home. This guide is available in all branches for borrowing, or for the small fee of three dollars, it is also available for purchase. The guide is organized into the 6 skills of the Ready for Reading program and has helpful hints and activities that promote the love of reading while preparing your child for learning to read at school.
While you are in your local branch, ask the librarian there to recommend books that support your child's journey to reading readiness!
