Planning For a Fun and Flexible Summer
With school wrapping up next month, it’s time to start thinking about ways to keep your kids busy during the summer months. I remember as a kid, summer break was an opportunity to do fun activities like swimming lessons, visiting amusement parks, going camping, traveling abroad and of course, reading books.
My family did a variety of activities however sometimes things changed and we didn't always do everything we planned. This taught me to be open and flexible and to always keep a good book by my side.
For this summer, why not include the Toronto Public Library and the TD Summer Reading Club in your plans? The Club is a free, accessible program that engages children in the joy of reading and helps combat reading loss that occurs during the summer months. Starting on June 26, take your kids to your local library and sign up for the Club. We have free stuff to give away and lots of fun activities, programs, and recommended reads to keep your kids engaged in reading all summer long.
This year’s theme is play and we’re encouraging kids to see reading as play and choose the books they want to read. As a kid, I found it hard to squeeze in books I wanted to read while in school. That’s why I always looked forward to summer so I could read books that weren't picked for me. Have your child select the books they want to read and enjoy so that they have a positive experience and develop a lifelong habit of reading.
So, this summer it doesn't matter what you have planned…take the TD Summer Reading Club with you! It's a portable and flexible Club that you can'take with you to the cottage, abroad or even enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
In the meantime, here are a few playful titles to get you started!
