Authors Plus Writing Equals Fun For Kids
When published authors meet eager children ages 8-12, magic can ensue! In six locations across Toronto, award-winning authors share their knowledge and enthusiasm. One will focus on writing like a reporter while another will explore graphic novels. Does your child like to write a little bit of everything? Then Smorgasbook is for them. Over four weeks, children explore how to transfer their imagination onto paper in the form of the written world.

Every year children’s reviews are glowing. “I am now a much beter riter,” declared one child after taking the workshops with Rukhsana Khan. After taking Jennifer Lanthier’s workshop, one child wanted to take another one immediately. JonArno Lawson’s workshops are “awesome, funny and cool,” while David Carroll “made writing very fun and enjoyable.” Elizabeth MacLeod “loves to read, just like me!” said one excited girl, while another mourned that Natale Ghent’s workshops went by too quickly.
Be sure to check out the recommended reading for children in support of Sophie's Studio Workshops. Books are by participating authors and about drawing and writing.
Sophie’s Studio is generously supported by the Toronto Public Library Foundation and a bequest from long-time library lover Sophia Lucyk. It was created to support literacy, creativity and writing skills in children from a young age.
