Keep Kids Learning All Summer with Toronto Public Library

Studies show that children who are engaged in learning activities during the summer retain more of the skills they learned during the school year. Toronto Public Library (TPL) is a great resource in every community that’s committed to keeping kids curious throughout the school break. And beginning June 24, Toronto Public Library kicks off Summer Wonder which I encourage you and your family to check out!

Summer Wonder is the library’s set of free programs and activities for kids and their families. Kids can learn a new skill, discover a new interest and have fun! TPL is hosting in-person and online programs all summer long. Learn more about the programs below. Everything is free and features a mix of programs led by the library’s expert staff and performers. With so many opportunities to explore there is always something to do and learn at the library.

Summer Wonder at Toronto Public Library runs from June 24 to September 2, 2023. If your family’s summer is already very busy, whether you’re in the city or away, there’s still lots of opportunities to participate in Summer Wonder.

TD Summer Reading Club

The TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC) is Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities. And it inspires kids to explore the fun of reading their way! Beginning June 24, drop by a library branch to sign up your child and get their free reading kit, which includes a reading log book, a corner bookmark and a recommended reads list. If you prefer to sign up online, use our Beanstack app! If you sign up on the app between June 24-July 31, you’ll be entered in a draw for the chance to win a wonder-full prize. Once registered – whether in person or online – kids can'then read whatever they’d like throughout the summer, keep track in their log books or on the app and collect stickers or badges.

There’s also a French Reading Challenge! It kicks off on June 24, and families can participate at a branch or online. Visit clubdelecturetd.ca for more ways to enjoy the TD Summer Reading Club in French.

StoryWalksⓇ

Beginning June 24, twenty-five Toronto Public Library branches will mount a TD SRC StoryWalk Ⓡ outside of their building. Stroll around the outside of the library building and enjoy reading Treasure/Trésor by Mireille Messier from one page to the next. Available in English and French. For more information, including a list of the StoryWalkⓇ branches, visit tpl.ca/readingclub.

Camps & Workshops

Our summer camps and virtual programs allow kids to get creative, build new skills and have fun too! There are so many wonder-full in-person and online experiences to choose from. Kids can discover design thinking as they learn about world issues, and design and build a prototype solution to a real world problem in our Wonder Workshops. There is something to explore and do all summer long!

Stem and Arts Programs

From LEGO workshops to meeting exotic animals, kids have lots of different STEM based programs to choose from and learn more about science and arts

Wonder Wall

Kids can share what they’re wondering about by posting a question on our Wonder Wall. They can also read what other kids have wondered about and discover new and interesting facts about the world.

French Programs

There are also programs for kids in French! Learn about the Famous French inventers with Touralingo, and more.

An End to Late Fines

In case you hadn’t heard, TPL permanently ended late fines for everyone, removing a barrier to access and making the library more welcoming to all Torontonians. All unpaid late fines on customer accounts were also cleared in April 2022. If it’s been a while since you and your family visited the library, there’s no better time than now to go back! Learn more at tpl.ca/finefree.
