New and Noteworthy Books: September 2020

We are dedicated to bringing the best and brightest books to our library collections. Most of these books we are recommending this month are available as ebooks.

Manny always wears superhero capes at home that give him amazing powers to fight sea monsters and zombie bears. At school, Manny wears an invisible cape so his secret identity isn’t given away. Sophie's Squash Go to School by Pat Zietlow Miller, illustrated by Anne Wilsdorf
On Sophie’s first day of school, she is reluctant to make friends. She would rather play with her squash that she grew in her garden than any of her classmates. Sophie soon realizes that having a true friend takes time and patience, much like growing her squash from seedlings. Ages 3-7

Sally McCabe is the smallest girl in the smallest grade. She soon realizes that her voice can make a difference when standing up to bullies. Ages 3-5
Nana Akua Goes to School by Tricia Elam Walker, illustrated by April Harrison
When Zura brings her grandmother to school for Grandparen'ts day, she is worried what the other children will think. Nana Akua brings in a quilt and teaches the children about Adinkra customs and symbols. Includes back matter with examples and meanings of fifty symbols. Ages 4-8
