Good Bikes at Lillian H. Smith!
You may have heard in the news lately about the good bike project. OCAD U staff Caroline Macfarlane and Vanessa Nicholas have been getting a lot of press for their pastel painted bicycles. This past spring, they came up with the idea of reviving abandoned bikes around Toronto with fresh coats of paint. Interestingly, the city did an about-face regarding their project, going from fining them, at first, to endorsing their efforts after a huge wave of public support (see this boing boing post, for example).
Each colour of bike (orange, magenta, rose, yellow, green, blue, aqua) means something different. The green bike in the community garden behind our library celebrates the gardeners' grassroots spirit, and the aqua bikes along College in front of Lillian H. Smith are unclaimed bikes in need of a facelift.
We're also excited to have BIXI bikes installed on Huron south of College, along the east wall of our building. The racks arrived in early August, and bicycles are now available to rent!
