Building Permits 101

February 1, 2014 | Cathy | Comments (0)

The brutal cold of this winter has had me housebound, which in turn has led me to noticing all the things around my house that need fixing.  My dreams of warmth and sunshine have been interspersed with dreams of home renovations.  If you’re in need of inspiration or want to dream big, look at some of these titles:

The vintage house: a guide to successful renovations and additions by Mark A. Hewsitt The best homes from This Old House by Kevin O’Connor The art of renovation: how to turn your house into your contemporary dream home by Barry Sugerman

Or you can'take the sensible approach:

Not so big remodeling: tailoring your home for the way you really live by Sarah Susanka Affordable remodel: how to get custom results on any budget by Fernando Pages Ruiz Buying for profit: remodeling investments that pay by Vicki Christian

If you’re ready to go beyond the dreaming stage and learn more about the steps required when undergoing a renovation, join us for a talk at North York Central Library on February 5 at 7 pm in Room 1.  Architectural technologist Gabriele Guidici will discuss when a permit is required, the application process, and the roles of the zoning by-laws, the Building Code and the Committee of Adjustment in the permit process.
