Would-be opera lover rejoices
One of my nagging little regrets in life is that I don't know my Verdi from my Puccini. I've always thought I would like opera – the music, the costumes, the high drama – but I've never had the opportunity to get into it.
Well, it looks like this is my lucky year. There's all kinds of opera- and performing arts-related programming going on at the library this fall – starting in September with a program at North York Central that looks like just what I need. Here's the description:
"Using Verdi's famous opera Aida as a reference, this accessible, interactive presentation outlines the basics of opera: its history, the key players, and how to appreciate the music." And it's presented by the Canadian Opera Company, so I know I'll be getting the straight goods. Perfect!
Here are the details:
Canadian Opera Company: Opera Talks 1 – What is Opera?
September 16, 2010 – 7 pm to 8 p.m.
North York Central Library Concourse Performance Space

Better still, it looks like this is going to be part of a series – there's another one in December, and another next year.
