Jay Charendoff Photo Exhibit at Woodside Square
"What's On" at Toronto Public Library includes not only author readings and other great talks, but a huge array of art exhibits at branches across the city. One that stands out as particularly interesting is that of Jay Charendoff's work, now showing at Woodside Square.
Entitled Time: Elusive, Intangible, Precious, this exhibit explores photography as a mechanical means of recovering lost moments. As Charendoff writes of his work and outlook:

"Photography helps us to recall people, places and events that are of significance to our brief stay here on this planet. The objective here is to capture the essence of duration in a series of single photographic images. Images are taken both from nature and frequently from architectural sources, as these are a rich source of aging subjects." "Each image should suggest a story line that extends well beyond the day the image was taken. How has Time affected the subject? How has the subject been adapted, either by man or nature, over long periods of time? How much of the full story be gleaned from careful observation? What will these subjects look like in 100, 1,000, or 10,000 years?" |
