Blogging Tips and Tricks January – March 2016
- Adding Alt Text to images – A trick to adding Alt Text to your images – unique to Typepad – is naming your image files the way you want the Alt Text to show up. So, instead of the file name “bookcover-mockingbird-21578.jpg” rename it to “To Kill a Mocking Bird.jpg” and the image file name will become the Alt Text once it’s uploaded to Typepad. Adding meaningful content to the alt tag also improves its findability (SEO).
- Do I need to provide photo attribution if I found the images on creativecommons.org? Yes, providing credit shows that we acknowledge other people’s creative efforts. Creative Commons has a good resource that you can reference and here’s an example of a TPL blog post that follows the best practices, Why Did the Deer Cross the Road? Road and Ecology in Cities, by Jeanette. The author, source, and license are all noted.
