Make Sure You’re on the Voters’ List
The voters' lists for the municipal election that will take place on Monday, October 25th are now available for public consultation in three branches – Urban Affairs, Toronto Reference Library and North York Central Library. Come in and check to see that you are on the list and that your information is correct – if not, you can submit a Voters' List Change Request form.
You can vote in the City of Toronto municipal election if you are:
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years old
- a resident of the City of Toronto
- a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the City of Toronto, or their spouse
- not prohibited from voting under any law
In the election, you may vote for one Mayor, one Councillor and one School Trustee. If you are already starting to receive flyers from your local candidates, don't just recycle them [after reading, of course!] – the Urban Affairs Library in Metro Hall keeps these pamphlets and would be happy to accept any donations. To see a list of registered candidates, find out where to vote or even apply to work in the election, visit the City of Toronto's election information page.
To give you some food for thought before you mark your ballot, Toronto Public Library is hosting a series of programs about important Toronto issues as part of its Thought Exchange series – look for Urban Voter Series events on the evenings of Sept. 29 and October 5.
