Renovation & Service Update – August 1, 2013
The Toronto Reference Library’s Revitalization project
achieved another milestone with the installation of the Global Connect
Wall. Located on the ground floor in the
Browsery, this digital information technology installation features 12 LCD
screens that broadcast news and information from around the world. Each screen is connected to a half dome
parabolic speaker that directs the sound down to the viewer without excessive
noise bleeding into the adjacent area. From Bloomberg to TSN, customers at TRL
can now tune in to the latest highlights around the globe. A customer enthused: "Finding the TV
area really cool. It's amazing how the directional sound speakers work!"

In other parts of the library, construction continues. The 5th floor recarpeting has been completed and the Marilyn & Charles Baillie Special Collections Centre is nearing completion with tiling and finishing work in progress. Meanwhile, recarpeting has started on the 4th floor in the Multilingual Collection area.
There will continue to be some service
disruptions due to the construction:
For the week of August 6:
Due to re-carpeting on the 4th floor, parts of the Multilingual collection may not be accessible. Please ask staff for assistance or
call the information desk at 416-393-7085.
The public washrooms on the 5th floor are closed. There is limited study space on the 5th floor due to construction.
The Arthur Conan Doyle Room
on the 5th floor is temporarily closed. However, the collection is
still accessible in the Baldwin Room in Special Collections on the 4th
floor.
