Islamic History Month featuring Dr. Shabir Ally
D r. S h a b i r A l l y
October is Islamic History Month!
This Tuesday Dr. Shabir Ally, president of the Islamic Information &
Dawah Centre (Ph.D from the University of Toronto with a specialization in
Qur'anic Exegesis) will speak on the rise of intellectual activity among
Muslims during the Abbasid Caliphate beginning in 750 CE.
Dr. Ally will discuss
Muslim contributions to science, civilization, and philosophy and will
highlight the particular contributions of Avicenna, al-Farabi, Averroes,
al-Razi, Alhazen, and al-Khawarizmi among others.
The lecture will attempt to
discover the dynamism that led to these developments, decipher the causes of
decline, and suggest ways in which Muslim societies may again contribute to our
collective intellectual progress.
