Today's featured agency is Labour Community Services. The mission of Labour Community Services is "(t)o create a deep and lasting solidarity between labour and community and to achieve a just and equitable society for all." The objectives are as follows, viz.:
"
- Organize workers & families in their communities and organizations to improve quality of life through labour education, advocacy for social justice and provision of social services.
- Work toward a just and equitable society for workers and families.
- Build a bridge to improve the lives of union and community members and establish an environment of community and union solidarity. "
The agency offers a Union Counsellor Program, has a Lifeline Foundation, and conducts special projects to act "as a “bridge” between the labour movement and the community. As part of the bridging process, customized workshops and seminars are developed and targeted at union members who are considering doing volunteer work as a union activist or as a community member…unions have provided much needed assistance to community groups and have exchanged ideas at community based coalitions."
