The last really good book you read?

Mine was Cory Doctorow's For the Win, a transnational novel about young people attempting to unionize gold farmers in massive multiplayer online games (MMOGs).  It's science fiction, but only just, and inhabits some of the same territory as his 2004 short story Anda's Game (available to read for free online) and his earlier YA novel Little Brother.

I highly recommend to sci-fi readers, budding trade unionists, online gamers, or pretty much anyone.

What's the last really good book you read?

  1. The last really good I read was A Company of Swans by Eva Ibbotson. It’s about a girl named Harriet who has a professor for a father, set in Cambridge, in the late 20th century. DUring that time, Harriet had little freedom because of the fact the she was a girl. She could not complete school because her father did not believe in having women in the educational world and was later banned also from her passion – dancing. Also, her father and aunt aspire that she marry a boring entomology student. She ends up running away with an elite dance troupe headed for the Amazons and has the time of her life. But all that could be ruined by her father who would do anything to get her back and and a peculiar women named Isobel…

  2. The last really great book I’ve read was Abarat: Days of Magic, Nights of War. This book is a sequel to Abarat and it was written by Clive Barker. I really love this series because it has EVERYTHING! It takes place in modern times, there are elements of both fantasy and of reality. There is comedy, and at the same time there is a great amount of horror and scariness as well! I especially love the art that the author has placed within the book! It helps enhance the visual strangeness of the world of Abarat. This book starts off with an enticing hook of three women struggling against a storm in a different world. They are arguing amongst each other over something they have done, and they plan to go somewhere called the Hereafter. Then, the first chapter begins with an ordinary girl called Candy Quackenbush, who is considered strange, different, and lives with an abusive father (these are all elements of the perfect protagonist to be sure!). One day, she breaks all the rules and runs away, and when she runs, she meets someone who will change her life completely, and don’t worry, it is nothing romantic or anything so mundane. The person is running from someone and when they are trying to run, she gets caught up in their adventure, and the story takes off. As I previously mentioned, the art in the story enhances the imagination and makes one wonder how gifted the author is to create such a world. I BEG ALL OF YOU TO READ IT!!!! IT IS THE MOST AMAZING SERIES AND EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT!!!

  3. The last really good I read was from this year’s Whitepine selection. The book is Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston. The Heroine of this story Kelley Winslow at first seems like your average typical girl, who is trying to make it big in the theatre world. Her break comes when she gets an opportunity to play Titania in Midsummer Night dream. Soon she learns that she was in away a perfect fit for that character. Then we meet Sonny who is a guard of the Samhain Gate, the doorway between the mortal and Faerie’s otherworld. The gates slowly open the 9 days up until Halloween, when the human world is exposed to an onslaught of destructive faerie creatures. Sonny is instantly drawn to Kelley as she appears like a firecracker to his senses. Sonny learns that Kelly is no mere mortal and with this secret they are plunged into a dangerous plot that Kelley must stop to save New York City and Faerie kind alike.
This book was my top pick for 2010 WhitePine Award. From the first chapter I was hooked. Ms.Livingston does an amazing job bring the characters to life. The story is compelling and it will keep you reading until the last page and wanting more; luckily there are two more books in the series. I would recommend this to any fan of fantasy and romance. This is series not to be skipped.

  4. The last really good book i read was LEAVING PARADISE by Simone Elkeles. Now let me just say that i’m not a chick lit fan i’m usually more of a science fiction type of girl however, Simone Elkeles is an amazing author. I shall just copy and past a proper summary for fear of butchering the synopsis.
Maggie has just returned home from a long stay in the hospital to repair the leg that was badly injured in an automobile accident; Caleb has just returned from prison, where he served nine months for driving the car that hit Maggie. In spite of a court order to stay away from her, Caleb continues to encounter Maggie and even ends up working for Mrs. Reynolds, the same elderly lady who Maggie helps. Telling the story in alternate chapters, Elkeles reveals the traumatic accident and its consequences from both victims’ points of view. Maggie can no longer play tennis and is now convinced that she is ugly; Caleb must endure the harassment of his former friends, especially the beautiful, seductive Kendra. Not everything in the crowded plot is adequately addressed, but Elkeles creates raw emotions, dialogue, and high-school ambience that’s just right. Maggie and Caleb are complex and authentic teens whom all readers will embrace. Theirs is a delicate, delicious love story–without the happy ending.

  5. The last great book that i’ve read is Getting the girl by susan juby. It is a nomine for the white pine 2010 award which makes the book really good. It talks about the life of a guy and he is shy. He likes this girl. Then he goes and trys to flirt with the girl he likes. He then goes and ask her out. Then in the end the guy goes out with the girl.
This book was my top pick for 2010 and the white pine award. It realates to real life situations and being in high school enviroment.
Susan juby did a fantastic job with this story. She added many details which makes the story more clear to the readers.
i would recommand to readers who like adventure, and romance.
I would really recommand this book to you.

  6. The last really good book I read was Rumours, a book from The Luxe series. I sort of expected it to be really girly and I thought that I wouldn’t like it but I’m glad my friend forced me to read it! It had so much drama and so many exciting and unexpected twists I was litterally addicted! I’ll just copy and paste a summary because I don’t want to give away too much or too little. I would probobly just end up confusing everyone.
After bidding good-bye to New York’s brightest star, Elizabeth Holland, rumors continue to fly about her untimely demise.
All eyes are on those closest to the dearly departed: her mischievous sister, Diana, now the family’s only hope for redemption; New York’s most notorious cad, Henry Schoon-maker, the flame Elizabeth never extinguished; the seductive Penelope Hayes, poised to claim all that her best friend left behind—including Henry; even Elizabeth’s scheming former maid, Lina Broud, who discovers that while money matters and breeding counts, gossip is the new currency.
As old friends become rivals, Manhattan’s most dazzling socialites find their futures threatened by whispers from the past. In this delicious sequel to The Luxe, nothing is more dangerous than a scandal . . . or more precious than a secret.
But anyways, I suggest that you read it…although i doubt most guys would want to.

  7. The last book that I’ve read is called My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. She also wrote Handle with Care, Nineteen Minutes, and The Pact- some of my all time favourites!

  8. The last good book i read was Split by By: Avasthi, Swati.
Here is a summary from tpl
Sixteen-year-old Jace arrives at the doorstep of his estranged brother with a re-landscaped face (courtesy of his father’s fist), $3.84, and a secret. Jace tries to move on, but all his changes can’t make him forget what he’s left behind. Running is easy, but true escape is near impossible.

  9. The last good book I read was Twenty Boy Summer, by Sarah Ockler. She has a really poetic writing style, and the story is so moving. Though at first it may seem like one of those beach reads, you’ll soon realize that it has a lot more depth to it than that. It’s definitely a must read, and it will probably have you crying or nodding your head in agreement to a lot of the stuff that happens in the book.

  10. When I picked up Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta, I thought (from the cover?) that it wasn’t going to be so great, but it was very touching and warm and it was really really good! I’ve been picking up a lot of good books from the new book shelf.

  11. The last good book I read was Burned, by P.C Cast and her daughter Kristen Cast. This is the seventh (7th) book in the ‘House of Night’ series. I would give you a summary but I do not want to ruin the book especially for those who have not read from the beginning. Briefly the whole series itself is about a group of teenage ‘vampyres’ who work together to overcome evil powers. Sure they get into fights sometimes but they learn that friendship, and staying together is always the best thing to do. The whole series in general is full of drama about one vampyre in particular named Zoey Redbird. Her life may be complicated but she always has her friends to have her back. The series was amazing and so adictive, so i recommend you read it! This book (Burned) in particular was quite intriguing itself. So much has happened to our little Zoey Redbird and her life. I really like the way the author writes, taking the perspective of each cahracter…the good ones…as well as the evil ones. It lets us get into the mood of that character and how it is like in their perspective! I could go on and on about the book itself and the series! I enjoyed reading it, and I hope you do too!!

  12. the last good book i read was change of heart by norah mcclintock. its part of the robyn hunter mysteries series. this book keeps you guessing till the end.

  13. The last good book I read was “The Host” by Stephenie Meyer. The aspect I love about this book is that it isn’t your generic love story. This book also has you thinking on how we treat the world and how we take things for granted. Bravo to Stephenie Meyer for making WONDERFUL books 😀

  14. The last good book i read was Tweak. what i love about this book is the way its been written. it’s based on a true story about a teen boy who’s been struggling with drugs ever since he was 12. it follows his journey through rehab, recovery, and relapse. the way the author, nic sheff, describes his journey is astonishing. i don’t think i’ve ever cried while reading a book, but this book most certainaly made me cry. it’s so heartfelt, and although i cant say that i completely understand his position, i was able to relate at times. i really thing all you teens should pick up this book, because its amazing, you will be holding your breath until the end. HAPPY READING 😀

  15. The last good book I read was “The Short Life of Bree Tanner” written by the author of #1 Ney York Times Bestelling Books ‘The Twilight Saga’. This author is none other than Stephenie Meyer. So, this book is pretty much self explanatory, according to the title. Well, you might understand it more if you read the Twilight Saga. Okay, so this book is a short book following “Eclipse”. (The third book in the Saga). It is focused on one of the newborn vampires that according to Stephenie Meyer herself, stood out to her. The short story is about a new born vampire named Bree Tanner who was created for a deadly purpose that she did not know of. But once the time came Bree was unleashed to fight in a war whoch her creator was too coward to partake in. But in the end, Bree’s life had come to and end because she was killed. This story has romance between the characters, a little violence, emotional scenes and drama as well. I really enjoyed this book and was glad that Stephenie Meyer chose to detail about one of the lives of the newborn and how it felt for her. It really brings out the perspective of a character that doesn’t have much of a role in a big book like Eclipse. I hope you enjoy this book, as much as I have!

  16. agreed. although its long, this book is amazing. it’s 500+ pages, but i finished reading it in 3 days; i couldn’t put it down because it was so good 🙂

  17. The last really good book i read was The Secrets Of My Hollywood Life. By:Jen Calonita a editor from Glamour. This is a very famous novel written by her and only her. It is about a teen girl named Kaitlin who has this famous Hollywood life and ends up crashing and has to get her life back together. Its a very interesting book i suggest everyone from ages 12-16 read this book it teaches you a realistic life story

  18. The last book I read was “A Year in Europe” by Racheal Hawthorne (I’m not sure if I spelled her name right?). It’s about three girls from Texas endering a year in different parts of Europe. Through different cultures and lifestyles they make new friends and also find love. Couldn’t put this book down, find it and read it. You won’t be disappointed 🙂

  19. Though this wouldn’t be THE BEST BOOK that I’ve ever read, I think it definitely deserves a mention. I read “A Fraction of the Whole” by Steve Toltz, recently and it was a very different type of a read. It was funny and pathetic, while also having many deep meanings in the story which every reader could relate with in their own way. I must also add that it is a very long book (500 something pages), but it takes you through the whole life of this character and his relationship with his father. I recommend it for a once in a lifetime read.

  20. I read “Saving Zoe” by Alyson Noel. I really like the plot. And also made me cry at the end as well. I would like to tell the summery of the plot but i don’t want to ruin the story for all of you. hope you find this book and read it…C:

  21. the last good book i read was “North of Beutiful” by Justina Chen Headley. It’s about a girl named Terra who is ashamed of her face because of her Port-wine stain birthmark on her cheek. She’s tried everything to get rid of it but nothing works. when her latest laser surgery fails to remove the birthmark, Terra drives home disappointed once again with her mother. Her car skids on a patch of ice and almost kills a goth guy amed jacob. Somehow Jacob had gotton out of the way without getting injured and soon he and Terra become friends.
Im not gonna say anymore about the book except that Terra has a very controlling father that always puts her, her mother, and her brothers down. And after a fantastic trip to china with Jacob and his family, Terra learns what true beauty is and her mother gets the courage to finally stand up to her father.

  22. The last awesome book I read was actually a series. It was called: Warriors. It was written by Erin Hunter. It was a great series about warrior cats and their ways of life. It was a bit unreal but it concluded a lot of fantasy which made the books more interesting to read.

  23. The last good book I read would be “Unwind” by Neal Shusterman. It’s about a futuristic world where, instead of abortion, paren’ts can decide if they want their 13-17 year old children to be “unwound,” meaning the kid would be harvested for his/her organs, which would be used by others in need of transplants. It’s sort of taking organ donors to the extreme. The story is about these 3 runaway teens who are brought together by the fact that they’re destined to be unwound. It’s a really interesting book that makes you wonder about the importance of life and whether someone should be allowed to take away a person’s right to live. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a good book to read.

  24. Looking for an urban fairy tale? The last good book that I read was ‘Darklight’ by Lesley Livingston; it’s the sequel to ‘Wonderous Strange’.
It’s a really good fantasy read with the right amount of romance, suspense and magic.
    Check it out!!

  25. A book that I read that I loved was The Twelve Caesars by Seutonius. It covered the lives and personalities of Julius Caesar and the first eleven Roman emperors- the Julio-Claudians-Augustus, Tiberius, Gaius (Caligula), Claudius and Nero, The emperors in 69 AD.- Galba, Otho, Vitellius and Vespasian, who was also the first Flavian emperor, and the other Flavians as well- Titus and Domitian. The book explored each person in good depth and (although I am not sure whether this was just characteristic of the translation) the style of the writing was such that it was very hard to stop myself from reading the whole thing.

  26. The last really good book I read was Emily the Strange. It’s about a girl who wakes up in a city/town but doesn’t remember how she got there. She also doesn’t know who she is. This book is fiction and I liked it because of Emily’s personality. She’s mysterious, independent, and smart. I would recommend this book to people who want to find something new and fresh to read. I guarantee you that this book will get you hooked the moment you read it. 🙂

  27. Between the Assassinations by Aravind Adiga, winner of the 2008 Man Booker Prize for his novel The White Tiger, is a collection of short stories set in a representative Indian town, with characters– teashop runner, drug addict’s daughter, rickshaw puller, mixed-caste rich kid, Maoist champion- who portray the socioeconomic issues of India in their own personal dilemmas.
Now setting aside prize histories that warrant unopened books automatic, though as yet unearned, respect– setting aside the merit of another portrayal of the sad extreme poverty of India and other third-world countries which most readers could only know through the couch– this book acquired for me a very personal preciousness in its portrayal in each character of an internal rebellion or realization, too profound to be exhibited in external emotion or gesture, unwitnessed in an environment of apathy, unvoiceable in an atmosphere of unchangeable helplessness. It was in an Indian world, by an Indian hand, but that sometime feeling in our lives– I think must be universal. Loved it.

  28. The last REALLY good book I read was: Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. This is a book about racism, and suppression. It is also a love story (kind of) but the message is also really evident.

  29. I am such a huge fan of those novels.
I love the fact that the lead character is a Native American. I think that I’ve missed my subway stop a couple times when reading those novels.

  30. I have an unconventional choice.
It is an online comic called “Axe Cop.”
Axe cop is written by a 5 years old, but his older brother, Ethan Nicolle, illustrates them. Ethan Nicolle is a Enser Award Winner Illustrated, and in currently developing a show with the cartoon network.
Axe Cop is so hilarious, and the fact that it is written by a five year old makes it that much cooler.

  31. The last EXTREMELY GOOD book I read was Animal farm by George Orwell. Animal farm is about a farm in england in the early 1900’s that -to someone just passing through- would look like a perfectly normal farm. But this is no ordinary farm. This farm is full of extremely unhappy animals who , even though they drove off farmer jones and any other humans on the farm during the rebellion, are still unhappy because they had taken care of each other at first the farm soon fell into napoleon’s hands. (Napoleon is a pig and the pigs are the only animals -other than donkeys- who can read.)
This book is just one of George Orwell’s fantastic books! (He also wrote 1984 and coming up for air.) All of George Orwell’s books would fall under the genre of social justice they are about unfair things that happen to people. Like 1984 is about life under totalitarian rule or up in the air which is pessimistic; industrialism and communism have destroyed england and Animal Farm is about the developments in the soviet union after the russian revolution.
P.S. anonymous Hieronymous the book you read sounds really interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S.S Zunaira the book you read reminds me of a book by Aldous Huxley called Brave New World. You might want to read it. Unless your not older than 12. Then don’t.

  32. I’ve read this book called ‘The Kite Runner’ by Khaled Hosseini and the only word I can come up with to describe it is, INTENSE. I don’t regret reading it, though it is also a story that stays with you long after reading it, and ‘The Kite Runner,’ being a really heartbreaking story, its unbelieavble cruelty haunts the reader like it does the protagonist in the book. All in all, the book played a real eye-opener to me as the harshness of an Afghan’s life made me compare my own petty concerns to their life-altering ones.

  33. i actually did a project on the Cherokee but when I read these books my mind was completely blank! I think books like this that are popular but still talk about natives are much better at helping you remember stuff like native culture. of course, I would reccomend the series too.

  34. a really good book i’ve recently read is tsubasa, those with wings by natsuki takaya. its from the creator of fruit basket and it is a manga with only 3 volumes. its about a girl named kotobuki and she is searching for the tsubasa.

  35. the last really good but i read was maximum ride by james patterson. i’ve only read graphice novel version and only the first 2 volumes. but its still really good and i would recommend anyone to read it.

  36. Dark Visions is the books name it’s by L.J. Smith. It’s an amazing book, it includes everything a teen would like. It has drama, mystery, romance etc. The book is about 5 physic teens and their amazing journey. It was almost hard to stop reading it at night I went on for hours and hours it was just fantastic.

  37. I read a couple of really good books a couple of days ago. The books were the Sharpe series it is about a soldier rising up in the ranks in the Napoleonic wars. It has more than just battles and I think many people will enjoy them.

  38. The last really good book I have read is called “Ender’s Shadow”. It is a really exciting book, and has advantage, science fiction ,a bit of romance and lots of deep thinking that will leave you wanting more !

  39. I think that is a great point. It is one of the few series where I think that they bring together a diverse group of friends from a variety of backgrounds. I completely pump up this series for those Twilight fans looking for something similar to read.
    Adele
    – Malvern Librarian who loves all things zombies, metal and tattooed related.

  40. The new, last good book I read was “The daughters of Eve” by Lois Duncan, a book about sexism, in a way that leaves you speechless.

  41. Well the last book i read was actually CRANK by Ellen Hopkins and i finshed her whole series it was nice more of a teen fiction i guess but it was nice and werid and disturbing

  42. It’s hard to choose just one book, but one really good book was “Sister Wife” written by Shelley Hrdlitschka. It’s all about polygamy and a girl named Celeste, who is repulsed at the idea of being married to an older man with other wives and finds herself attracted to Jon, a younger boy. It’s also focused on Taviana, a city girl who runs away and lives in Unity, the community where Celeste lives, who can’t fit in because of her different ways.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from start to finish. I’m not the type of person who usually reads books of this nature, but I had to make an exception for this.

  43. The last book i read was GLASS
    by Ellen Hopkins
it was phenomenal, the way she writes her books, is amazing.
i couldn’t put this book down.

  44. A book i read recently that was very good was come home (?)
it has stayed with me since i read it, it was a great book, it really opens your eyes up about the homeless.

  45. The last really good book I read was ‘The Book Thief.’ It was an amazing book about a girl named Liesel who lives in the care of her foster paren’ts, the Hubermans, during WWII, Germany. It is here that she discovers her love of books and so begins her career as the book thief. Marcus Zusak creates characters so real its frightening and a world so corrupt you can’t imagine that it was true. Liesel is an amazing and strong protaginist. It is a book I have read over and over and it manages to get me everytime. It made me laugh and cry and angry. Zusak has an amazing writing style and with the very first line I was sucked into his book. The most interesting part of the whole novel is that it is not narrated by Liesel, in fact it is narrated by Death. Yes. Death is the narrator. Some people found that this narration was irritating and not necessary but I felt that it was perfect. It made the book all the more dark and interesting. This book echos with the female adolescence of Anne Frank’s diary. So o anyone who enjoys strong characters, a strong storyline and a book that will break your heart and mend it too, The Book Thief is the book for you. I truly hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

  46. Yes!! It gave you that feeling. There has been a huge wave of vampire romances in the last two years, so it was a quite a delight seeing a faerie themed novel.
I have not yet started the second book, but it’s on the top of my summer reading list. 🙂

  47. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins was a terrific book. The Hunger Games series is amazing for a reason. Collins really knows how to create suspense and knows how to tell a great story. She really is a master on playing with your emotions and I am really glad to have picked up this series.

  48. I’ve been wanting to read this for a while, but haven’t gotten to it yet. Glad to hear that it’s great, I’ll definitely read it sometime this summer.

  49. The last really good book that I read was Kiss Me Kill Me the book is about 16 year old Scarlett and she is a gymnast. She hangs out with her two friends Alice and Luce and all she’s ever wanted was to kiss the boy of her dreams who is Dan McAndrews and she wants to be part of the cool kids club! She gets invited to a party and Dan McAndrews is there! They both go out on the terrace and they start kissing but Dan dies while they are kissing. The police come and everyone’s suspects that Scarlett killed Dan. Scarlett didn’t kill Dan and she realizes that she was set up by the rich kids.

  50. My fave book currently is ‘no time for goodbye’, I cant remember the author but its an awesome book. Good for people that are into mysteries and such.
About a girl whose family dissapears one night and never returns, without any note. She then starts recieving these momentos and objects her family only had access to. Read it to find out more.
    Rate it a 9 out of 10 (because I like mystery books);D

  51. The last really good book I read was Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead. It is the fifth book in her Vampire Academy Series. The series follows a girl named Rose who is a dhampir, a race who exists to protect the mortal vampires or Moroi from the immortal vampires the Strigoi. It’s a really good series, if you like the whole vampire novel craze, but are looking for something new and interesting this is the series for you. You can find the novels in the teen sections of some libraries, but they do not seem to come up on the library catalouge. The books go in the following order:
    Vampire Academy
    Frostbite
    Shadow Kiss
    Blood Promise
    Spirit Bound
The final novel in this series comes out in December of this year, and a warning to all who read, there are some major cliffhangers at the end of her books ( But that just makes it more fun ) Happy Reading!

  52. I loved the book thief. I love that Mark Zusak chose to narrate the book in such an interesting way. I mean I have never seen another novel narrated by Death. It really shows how good an author he is that he can do that, and not creep people out. I think everyone in the world should read this book. Orinignality people, stop writing about vampires!

  53. I like Stephanie Meyers writing, but I think The Host is too long. I tried to read it once and I got to about the middle and then I got bored and never finished it, it needed to be little shorter

  54. The last really good book I completed was “A Young People’s History of the United States: Volume One” originally by Howard Zinn and then later adapted by Rebecca Stefoff. It was a short read, which I stress is often uncommon when reading about history, but I enjoyed the level of simplicity this adapted version provided when you consider the complexity of the subject. The fact that the author’s perspective came from minorities provided the final flair which made this truly unique.

  55. The last really good book I read was “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins, the second book in the Hunger Games trilogy. It was really an amazing novel. It was even better than the first book in the trilogy. I would tell most people what my favourite parts in Catching Fire were, but than I would be probably spoiling the whole book for eveyone who hasn’t read it yet.

  56. The last really good book i read is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I have to say i really enjoyed reading this book, I’m so glad there is a second and third book to this novel. The story takes place in a country called Panem where North America used to be. Within Panem there are 12 districts in which the Capitol chooses a girl and a boy ages 12-18 to be a competitor in the Hunger Games where they have to try to kill everyone and be the last one standing. This is a very tense novel where the reader is constantly surprised by the events that take place in it. It includes elements of sorrow, love and the sheer will to survive.

  57. I picked up The Coffin Dancer by Jeffrey Deaver during a blackout. Though it was only supposed to pass the time, I kept reading it even after the lights came back on. The second in a mystery series about the ingenious quadriplegic Lincoln Rhyme and beautiful street cop Amelia Sachs, it starts with a plane crash engineered by a hired assassin. The rests of the targets try to stay alive while the detective duo hunts the hunter. The story was a labyrinth filled with twists that kept my attention until the last page. Definitely a really good read.

  58. The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory is a historical fiction book about the life of Mary Boleyn. It’s set in the XXXIIth century and gives insight into the life of the less famous Boleyn sister. Mary was the King’s mistress before her sister entranced him and took his original queen’s crown. Mary watches from the shadows as her sister becomes a rising star, but ultimately loses her head. It mirrors the events that happened in real life in a different era, but revives the romance, deception and emotion at the King’s court. It’s my favorite book in the series.

  59. The book i just finished reading was The breadwinner by Deborah Ellis. She is a really great writer who writes about problems in the world. The breadwinner is about a girl named Parvana dressed as a boy in order to provide food for her family since Afghan women and girls are not allowed to leave the house without a man. The Talibans have taken over most of Afghanistan and Deborah Ellis informs the world about the troubles or such places by combining both non-fiction facts and fictional characters. I would highly recommend this book. It is an excellent read as well as the second volume of the book, Parvana’s Journey.
Before I read this book, i read War Brothers by Sharon E. McKay.
This is really a intresting and wonderful book. War Brothers is about a boy who is taken by the LRA (lord’s resistance army) which have been a problem in Uganda from many decades. Since some 3rd world countries like Uganda have democory, whichever party is the strongest takes over the country and Kony who is the leader of the LRA have been abducting children to be used as soliders and slaves.
    READ BOTH OF THESE BOOKS.
It’s really good. It won’t be a waste or time. 🙂

  60. The Last extraordinary book that i read was “Wintergirls” by Anderson. She is an awesome writer. i completely understood the message she was trying to send about people who are going through a rough stage in their life about whether they are obeisance or not and how anorexia can affect them.this book thaught me a lesson because i am always ttrying to find a way to get thinner, and i realize that i am fine just the way i am.

  61. one really good book was ink exchange. it was a really dark and sad story, and i usually don’t like those kinds of books but this was good. it wasn’t all cheery happily ever after. for a fantasy book it was one of the most amasing books i’ve read!i won’t tell you the story, go read it yourself, thats what reading programs are for right?

  62. The last really good book I read was The Perfect Cut, it was one of the white pine selections!

  63. The books written by Eoin Colfer such as the Artemis Fowl series I have always found interesting.

  64. The books written by Eoin Colfer such as the Artemis Fowl series I have always found interesting.

  65. The last book i read and really like is called “Wings”, written by Aprilynne Pike.
“Wings” is a fantasy romance story (with famous legends such as King Arthur, and science intertwined with the story) and the first book out of four (and only two has come out. The second one called “Spells” is not even in the library yet and I really like to know what happened next.) “Wings” is a story about a fairy – a changeling; a scion.
This book was fun to read and the plot and characters are fascinating. It makes you want to read more to know more. Usually, I flip the books I read until the end so I’d know how the ending would go – but this book didn’t even give me that chance. It’s really good that you would want to know every single detail about the plot and the characters; not just how the ending goes.
I totally recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and, of course, romance.

  66. I have the book called “The Queen’s Fool” and I absolutely love it! It has the “Jeanne d’Arc” feel to it. So amazing!!

  67. Oh! I cried at the end! Actually, I was already crying when Hassan gave Amir the letter and a bit of tears flowed out when that terrible incident happened to Hassan.
Have you read his second book? “A thousand splendid suns”?

  68. Oh wow! I only read Nero and it was fascinating – especially the fire. I got a little bored with it. I don’t really like reading what historians wrote. I’m more into stories like “Argonautica”.
I’ve read the letter of Pliny to Tacitus on the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and I liked it.

The *Globe and Mail* says: “This novel is written for the young adult but adult readers will also find it satisfying. Peacock places demands on the reader, expecting intelligence and curiosity.”
Make sure to check the guidelines before you make the vid.

  71. The last really good book I read was “Holes”. It was just amazing and sad that no one believes Stanley Yelanats and I felt very sorry for him. The title of the book is just perfect along with the characters’ varying personalities. Louis Sachar is an awesome author! X)

  72. The last really good book I read is called Hybrids. It is written by David Thorpe a British author. Its genre is science fiction. I don’t normally read sci-fi novels but this has changed my mind. Its story plays around a plague that comes to Britain which attack many human beings. This plague maintains people to have technological parts. Monitor for a head, Ipod for a had etc. It is a great book, and I really recommend it!

  73. The first book that comes to mind is Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. This book surely has one of the most unique plots. A young girl who mourns over her own loss when she dies in the beginning and goes away to another “world”. There she meets others who possesses the same fate as her: living life backwards from the age at which one died to babyhood. This novel will make the reader realize the importance of life and the reasons to cherish it.

  74. The last good book I read was Brisingr by Christopher Paolini. I’m not going to give the synopsis for those who haven’t read the first two which are Eragon and Eldest.

  75. The Hunger Games is an awesome book. I just finished reading the 2nd one in the series and I can’t wait for the next one. 😀

  76. No, I haven’t. I’ll be sure to check it out though, once I’ve read some lighter books, because I was totally spent out reading that.

  77. You’re right! I just finished reading this book and I thought that it was amazing!! I REALLY CAN’T WAIT TILL THE THIRD BOOK COMES OUT NEXT MONTH!!:)

  78. Definatel Duman Key by Steven King and more recently Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt.
They are both AMAZING authors who make the reader feel the emotion of the book
    😉

  79. The last good book I read was ‘The Truth About Forever’ by Sarah Dessen.
I love reading Sarah Dessen novels! She is an excellent writer, very descriptive and relatable to life.

  80. The last great books i read would be the Night World series by L. J. Smith. THESE BOOKS were books that once you pick up, you simply could not stop reading…soo much better than the twilight series!!! This breath taking serie is about vampires and werewolfs and witches and humans finding out who their soulmate and the danger of being loved. Its an amazing series you should try it…. if u like the night world series you should try the vampire diaries too!!!

  81. The last book i read was Finding Grace by Alyssa Brugman. It’s about a recent high school graduate who thinks she knows everything or just about everything. Anyways she accepts a job offer taking care of a brain dead woman named Grace. It’s a really witty and funny book. I highly recommend it.

  82. The Thief by Megan W Turner is an absolutely amazing book full of surprise and relevation. It’s a bit slow in the beginning but after the first couple of chapters, it gets really good. The thief, Eugenides is an incredibly funny, smart character you’ll absolutely cheer for. The ending is especially surprising.
The series gets better and better with the Queen of Attolia, The King of Attolia, and A Conspiracy Of Kings.
    A can’t-put-book-down-except-to-go-washroom-and-eat kind of book.

  83. The really good last books that i read were the Night World series by L. J. Smith…they are AMAZING!!! I personally think they are way better than the Twilight series and I love romance vampire novels!!! I would recommanded to all!!!

  84. OMG!!! I loved Dark Vision too!!! but i still thought that vampire diaries and the night world are better!!!

  85. The last really good book that I read was Wanted by Sara Shepard. It is the 8th and last book in the Pretty Little Liars series and i absolutely loved it. It was so intense but funny at the same time. The first book is called Pretty Little Liars for anyone who wants to read it.

  86. I LOVED a book called Where Nina Lies by Lynn Weingarten!
I’m usually into horror and fantasy but i tried this book and immediately fell in love with the beginning ! It`s about a girl whose sister goes missing and she goes looking for her. And there`s a great twist in the middle of the book that you don`t even see coming 😛

  87. The last good book i read was Alex and the ironic gentlemen, written by Adrienne Kress. She also wrote Timothy and the dragons gate. I liked the book because it was very suspenseful.

  88. Aiyah, I read this book last summer and it seriously made me think. I kept lamenting for the pathetic situation of the animals. When I remembered that the book was a social commentary, it made it all the more funny. It’s a smart book.

  89. the last really good book i read is “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” i was great to see the novel end after 6 previous published books but the ending of the series was just sad. Yet, Harry’s adventure was very suspenseful and i kept me reading to the end.

  90. OMG!
Finally someone else who read this book! This book was so amazing i had to have a copy of my own. I remember enjoying this book alot and im sure everyone else who reads it will too as you did, Tina. I also watched the movie ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ It wasn’t as great as i expected it to be but i enjoyed it anyway. This is the first book i read by Phillipa Gregory, but after enjoying it so much i decided to read more of her books which were also great!
    Historical fictions rule!
p.s. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova is also an amazing historical fiction you should check out!

  91. oh wow, to be honest the last really good book I read was one of the Percy Jackson series. I know I’m a little too old for it, but trust me, Greek mythology couldn’t get more interesting with humour, action, and adventure at every corner. I love the characters and story and even though I’m a bit too old to read it, I still learn interesting fundamentals from it:D.

  92. The last really good book I read was The Road of the Dead by Kevin Brooks. It’s about two brothers who are determined to find out the truth behind their sister’s killing. This book keeps you going once you start reading the very first page. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read thriller books.

  93. I’ve been hooked on all of LJ Smith’s books. Especially the Vampire Diaries series and the Secret Circle series.Super exciting and addicting!

  94. (This is actually a reply to Hikari)
The Oresteia by Aeschylus is really good.I also love the play Oedipus by Seneca and Oedipus the king by Sophocles. The play Octavia (no one knows who wrote it) is also really good. I just put the Argonautica on hold and it sounds amazing from what I have read on it.

  95. Octavia has sometimes been attributed to Seneca, however, and is often published alongside his plays.

  96. Animal farm is amazing! It is a great novel! George Orwell is a really good writer! I also love 1984 by him.
