Meet Tory Woollcott, author of Mirror Mind: Growing Up Dyslexic
Tory is a graphic novelist who just published her first novel. Mirror Mind is a personal story of her experience growing up with a learning disability. We met at her studio on Markham Street in Mirvish Village. Check out the final cut:
In the interview Tory tells us that her favorite branch is Lillian H. Smith because she likes the architecture and special collections. What is your favorite branch and why?

North York Central, because of its convenience, upteen amount of floors to hide/read, wide variety of books, and the awesome LGBT section.
My favourite branch is Woodside Square.
First, because it’s really conveniently located in a mall, so whenever my family and I go shopping, I can use the excuse of “We’re already here” so that my sister and I can go to the library to borrow tons of books 🙂 The library is close enough to some food too. The library is close enough that we could bike there if we wanted to.
Second, I really like how when you go inside the nearest entrance to the library, it’s filled with ads of the library, so it gives you less boredom to deal with while you walk a short walk to the library.
Finally, I really like how easy it is to find the computers and books. There is only one floor, so it makes it convenient for lazy people like me 🙂
Hey Alfea,
North York Central is my favourite too. 🙂
Toronto Reference Library! My friend’s grandpa’s book is in the reference section 🙂
The S. Walter Stewart library is kinda awesome because they have a mini ROCKET SHIP in the kids area. What beats a rocket ship?! Going to their kids area makes me feel young again! haha
My favourite would have to be Riverdale. It’s pretty small compared to other branches, but I find the extremely cozy and comfortable inside. The staff are really nice too.
victoria village, because although its a small library, its full of amazing books. its also very welcoming with an endless amount of activites, the staff is amazing, and its always quiet; so i’m able to get my work done. LOVE this branch <3 🙂
the Agincourt branch because the library is big and quiet fo me to work and read. Also, i can i find all the books i need
I’ve only had the pleasure of rummaging through two TPL branches: Woodside Square and Fairview. I’d have to pick the latter because it is spacious and really quiet.
I kinda like the St. Jamestown branch because of the self-check out tables, which are pretty convenient. It also feels very calm and peaceful in the mornings.
The Jane/Dundas renovation last year really transformed the library. Bright with lots of windows, great reading spaces and an excellent kids library down the long ramp.
I like Bloor-Gladstone the best:)
TRL is a close second though
I like Bloor-Gladstone the best because of its gaming system

I like Fairview library because it’s nice and quiet there where I can study there. There are also some rooms that I can go into and just study there in peace. I also like the library is because they have all the law stuff that I need and also it’s good practise to read the bills that was going on in Canada and also the books as well. They also have awesome clubs to join and have huge rooms for holding clubs
I agree, it is a great branch and in a great area!
It’s interesting that some of you mentioned how you enjoy your library visits when it’s quiet.
Thank you to those who mentioned their appreciation for the libraries our office has worked on. We’ve also worked on many other libraries for TPL including Kennedy/Eglinton, Yorkwoods, Woodside Square, Yorkville, Main Street, Bayview, Runnymede, Long Branch, Hillcrest, Deer Park, Forest Hill, Black Creek, Agincourt and many more!

My favourite branch is Bloor/ Gladstone because it’s fairly cozy after the renovation. The books are organized. It’s not too loud, but not too silent so that you can actually hear your breathing (plain creepy feeling), The systems easy to just take out your books. There are tons of comfy couches and a nice view if you get a seat by the window.
And I’m just used to going there 🙂
Right you are Karen! the Agincourt Branch all the way! I especially love the way it looks now, i mean the fact that i can finally reach any book on the shelves in the main floor is awesome! This is thanks to the renevation the library went through.I honestly never really had to go to another library just to find the books i want, they are all in Agincourt where I can find ’em.
Woot Forest Hill! But I got to go with Lillian H. Smith. I love how there’s a garden out back and I love the architecture as well. Also, it’s the very first library I went to when I was younger, so lots of good memories there.
The Wychwood branch is very quiet, authentic and special. I love the books in the teen section in this library. Even if the library is very small, I like its architecture and interior design.
The library in which you would find the best books ever would be the Toronto Reference Library. It has a wide variety of books and it is also very peaceful place to read and study. There are many cool features in this library. There is a section for for the disabled which is pretty good. It has a piano room with two pianos in the music section in the top most floor. In the ESL section it has some cassette players. Another cool thing about this library is you can find all kinds of textbooks. This helped me with my academic stuff. I also like the architecture of this library!
REference library downtown
i love how it has lots of floors, a great street view and lots of comfy chairs and tables.
i also like how they have so many computers and jacks for plugging in ur own as well
plus there is a timmies and quiznos near by

My favourite branch is St. James Town because I find really cozy and it’s a really quiet place to concentrate on what you’re reading. 🙂
