  1. The “Cupcakes, cookies and pies, oh my!” recipe book really taught me a lot of new techniques that I can use to decorate my pastries in the future, but in a way it disappointed me a little. I picked up this book thinking that it would give me lots of new delicious recipes, but it only gave basic cupcake recipes and afterwards explains in immense detail on how to decorate it to look like a shoe or crocodile. Personally I don’t really like icing and almost all of the “recipes” are fifty percent icing. I think that this book should be considered a decorating book for pastries. I have to admit, the finished products do look beautiful. I especially like the “In the Bad” cupcakes. It looks extremely professional and mature. Although I was expecting actual new cake recipes, I am still really glad I took a look at this, because I can find new recipes anywhere, but this a binding of marvelous sheets of papers, altogether with so many great techniques. The only thing is that decorations may look pretty, but they don’t taste as good compared to the actual pastry, so I feel like it brings the quality down. I think that instead of using products that are already bought, make them yourself. This book feels like a arts and crafts book instead of a baking book.

  2. You make some interesting points Nina! I have to agree, I prefer the cake to the icing too (that being said, I prefer pie to cake ANY DAY).
Have you come across any really great baking books that you could share?
Or maybe someone else out there has some good recommendations for you!
