  1. I really don’t quite know what to say about Hunger by Jakie Morse Kessler, it was really unlike anything else I’ve ever read. Yes, I’m very familiar with the problem that is anorexia but I have never read a novel that described it in such a way. It’s a really short novel and I feel as if it would have been more effective if it was a little bit longer because I found that the plot and characters were lacking in detail. I liked the message that it sent because eating disorders is something that hurts many people and if they read this novel I am sure that it would help. I read the blurb before actually picking up the novel and I have to say it was very weird but who’s to say weird is not a good thing and it only intrigued me even more. The book follows an extremely anorexic young teenage girl who encounters death while starving. Death who is personified gives her life back but only if she agrees to become famine. She agrees and as she sees the world starving she realizes that there is a “demon” inside her and that she needs help. Often when one has anorexia, they deny it because they don’t thing they have a problem with it, just like Lisa in the novel and I feel as if it is so relatable. However, apart from that it was a very strange plot and often times I didn’t quite follow what was going on and because of that, I wouldn’t quite recommend this book to anyone.
